PODCAzT 15: Augustine - Christ is Vine and Life

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM, NAPLAM, PODCAzT — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 10:32 pm

Today’s PODCAzT concerns the second reading from the Office of Readings, taken from St. Augustine of Hippo’s commentary on John 15:13 in tr. Io. eu 84.  I also talk about St. Isidore of Seville as a possible patron of the internet and the prayer I wrote.

I am a bit stuffed up today from a touch of allergies, and you can hear it in the recording.  Life is popping out here, now that it is spring.  Since today was a super busy day, I put this together pretty fast after getting home from a trip down to Velletri for the Chrism Mass this evening.

    And the new Camerlengo is…

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 8:43 pm

I just returned to my dwelling to find that the Holy Father…

Accepted the resignation from the office of camerlengo of Holy Roman Church presented by Cardinal Eduardo Martinez Somalo in accordance with the provisions of the Apostolic Constitution "Universi Dominici Gregis," and has called to succeed him in the same office, Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone S.D.B.

4 April: St. Isidore of Seville

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULUM — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 12:11 pm

While he is not the official Patron of the Internet, some think he ought to be. As a result, years ago I was asked to write a prayer to be used using the internet.  It has become widely diffused in many languages, but I wrote it in Latin.

When we made the switch to a different server, the change in code completely blew away the texts on my Internet prayer page!  Another gift of migration.   I think have corrected most of the languages.  The Korean is still not usable.  If there are any Koreans out there who can help with this, I will be obliged.

Here is the Latin and the English.

    Orátio ante colligatiónem in interrete:
    Omnípotens aetérne Deus,
qui secúndum imáginem Tuam nos plasmásti
et ómnia bona, vera, et pulchra,
praesértim in divína persóna Unigéniti Fílii Tui
Amen.

A prayer before logging onto the internet:
    Almighty and eternal God,
who created us in Thine image
and bade us to seek after all that is good, true and beautiful,
especially in the divine person of Thine Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
    grant, we beseech Thee,
that, through the intercession of Saint Isidore, Bishop and Doctor,
during our journeys through the internet
we will direct our hands and eyes only to that which is pleasing to Thee
and treat with charity and patience all those souls whom we encounter.
    Through Christ our Lord.   Amen.

I am looking for versions in other languages.   Check those I have already.  If you can come up with one, kindly e-mail it to me.
