Anyway, what a brilliant piece! However, I did cringe when the gent in the background chanted “Gloria in ‘ek-sell-seez’ Deo.” I suppose that’s why they’re all going back to school. I will forward the link to all my English friends, not one of which has any percepible belief in God; however, they find my evangelizing amusing.
A somewhat related note: in one of the side chapels in Westminster Cathedral near the bronze plaque that lists all the bishops back to the reformation (on the left side as you enter from the street), there is an entombed skeletal figure in a glass case, if I recall correctly. Anyone know who that might be and what his story is?

AZ, Brian: Thanks for the info. That blog is fantastic (sorry, Fr. John)! Westminster Cathedral is an amazing place with an amazing past. I think its future will be quite interesting, too.
Now, who can tell me where London’s and/or Westminster’s cathedral was before the Deformation? Surely not the Abbey church? Thanks.
It was at old St Paul’s which burned down during the Great Fire of 1666 and replaced by Wren’s masterpiece.
