Indianapolis: TLM with Bp. Perry and request for prayers for Archbp. Buechlein

This just in:

Dear Father,

In case you have not already gotten this heads-up I wanted to let you know that Bishop Joseph N. Perry, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, will celebrate a solemn Traditional Latin Mass at Holy Rosary parish in Indianapolis on Tuesday, February 12, at 7:00 PM.  This is apparently the first time in decades that a bishop has offered the Traditional Latin Mass in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.  On the 13th Bishop Perry present a talk entitled "The role of suffering in Christian life."  Two edifying days to be sure!

We would also request everyone’s prayers for the health of Archbishop Buechlein of Indianapolis, who announced earlier this week that he has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and will soon undergo chemotherapy.

**What is going on with these bishops? Something’s afoot. These bishops are doing their best to implement the Idult and look at these things happening to them. Cardinal George of Chicago had his bout last year or so, and we know he stands for the Motu Proprio. Father just wrote about Archbishop Nienstedt and his mother, and now Archbishop Buechlein…**

    **God be with us all!**

To be fair to Archbisop Buechlein, Holy Rosary is a Traditional parish with the full range of sacramental and catechetical life, and is thriving. It’s not something the MP prompted.

Archbishop Buechlein is a great blessing to this archdiocese, please pray for him. Will Riley

I’m excited! As a college student in Terre Haute, I plan to attend this. It’s easily worth the Tuesday night drive.

Bishop Perry has been a strong supporter of the TLM. He frequently can be found celebrating at St. John Cantius in Chicago. He even went with the SJC to Krakow to celebrate an historic TLM.

    God bless him!

I hope Bishop Perry offers Mass in the usus antiquior at the National Shrine in Washington, DC soon. The Shrine is under the direct care of the USCCB – so it would be a very significant occasion.

  7. David Kubiak says:

I was told that Bishop Perry will not celebrate pontifically from the faldstool, which is odd since he does it all the time at St. John’s and his command of the rubrics is excellent. Too bad — I wonder if he knows how good the Holy Rosary MC’s are. I wish the announced clarifications of the M. P. will regularize once and for all these un-pontifical Masses celebrated by bishops that are always commented on when they happen.

I hadn’t heard about Archbishop Buechlein, who has been a consistent and patient friend of the old rite apostolate. God bless him in his illness.

A Bishop can not offer a regular Solemn High Mass that’s against the Rubrics, He can only offer a Pontifical High or Low Mass.
