Possible upcoming Rome pilgrimage with Fr. Z - feedback needed

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULA — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 3:50 pm

Folks, I was recently contacted by a rather high profile Catholic figure who suggested I might be of some use on a Rome pilgrimage.

I just thought I would float this past some of your readers.

There are no fixed details yet, and this is just discussion stage.

    • We are talking about the first part of November.
    • The would be the opportunity of both the TLM and Novus Ordo for daily Mass, maybe even a High Mass or two.
    • In Rome, mainly.
    • Possible side trips to Assisi, or Orvieto, or Ostia Antica.
    • It is a special year in honor of St. Paul, whose tomb is also in Rome, of course.

Here is a little poll just to see in a quick way how many readers might be interested.

I put YES, as the answer twice, because this plugin forces at least two responses and I only need to know who might want to go on such a thing.

Would you be interested in a Rome trip with Fr. Z?

    1. Interested. And let me organize it for you. I can give you many reasons why you should use me and several priest references. Plus, I’m a long time reader and occasional poster.

    2. I’m not voting because I can’t go, but I would love to if it were a viable option.

    3. If there’s a rush for places it might end up first come first served.

    4. I would love to go to Rome in pilgrimage
with you Fr Z. But I cannot commit right away.
If I end up on board, I would like to serve
      at Mass.

    5. Does this have anything to do with the celebrations in Rome for the anniversary of the founding of the FSSP this fall?

      Comment by Jonathan Bennett — 27 February 2008 @ 8:53 pm
    6. Oh, and if this does come to fruition and I can go on this pilgrimage (which I really hope to), I would also like to volunteer my services at the Altar.

    7. LOL! I know you explained why there two “Yes” votes, but it just looks funny. What came to mind (who knows why) was a little child who didn’t want to eat his vegetables and was given his, er, “two” options: Yes or Yes. I guess it was the “or” that really made your two ‘options’ funny.

    8. I am definately interested.

    9. I’m definitely interested; maybe people from the UK should remember to keep in touch to have some common organisation.

I could offer you my modest serving skills too.

    10. Um, just an idea, I hope an excellent one… I can’t come, but, just to know…

Is this pilgrimage going to be a kind of Reginald Foster, OCD Latin everywhere extravaganza, except much better, with the usual Fr Z fisking, but this time with monumental inscriptions and such? That would really be a worthwhile pilgrimage/retreat/immersion in history into the present with a hermeneutic of continuity experience! Sorry I can’t come for the whole thing, but you just might see me tagging along at this Church or that ruin if I’m in Rome at the time.

God speed to ye all! Cheers!

    11. I said yes, count me in. That is from the heart. The pocket may be another matter as I am presently living downunder in Oz. It would be a matter of cost unfortunately so it will be a wait and see the details before signing on the dotted line! God Bless you Fr. Z. for your great site.

    12. What a wonderful idea! If my husband and I hadn’t been going to Rome in May, I would have been very tempted to add my name to the list.

    13. Count us in Fr Z, me and the present Mrs Ratzinger have only been in Rome once, we stood in a vast numberless horde, round the clock to pay respects to the late Pope John Paul II, so we didn’t really have time for anything else. If you attract a vast numberless horde to your pilgrimage will you be suggesting we find our own hotels etc, which would be the way to go when it comes to hordes. Or will it be a more select affair ?, limited numbers that sort of thing ?. The SSPX pilgrimage attracted several thousand at the turn of the Millennium.

    15. It is wonderful to see Altar Servers interested. Is there
anyone who can sing gregorian among the pilgrims? I believe
this information would be useful for Fr. Z. in order
      to celebrate High Mass.

      Comment by Derik Castillo — 28 February 2008 @ 12:07 pm
    16. Derik: While that is an excellent idea, I am sure that my friends involved with the FSSP in Rome would be ever so glad to help.

    17. I am interested but cannot commit to it at this time. Would like more details on dates, length of trip, cost, etc.
I can sing Gregorian chant and would love to do it in a choral group.
We are actually thinking about going to Rome in Sept/Oct and would love to rent an apartment. Any leads would be appreciated. We could possibly go later with this trip.

    18. I voted YES. I doubt it, but is there a chance the Wednesday Papal audiences are held inside that time in November?

Thanks for providing this great opportunity, Father.

      Comment by Marianne — 28 February 2008 @ 2:06 pm
    19. Father, if you are taking a part in a pilgrimage, I will surely commit to going. I’m young and of limited means, but I have 8 months to save.

      Comment by James — 29 February 2008 @ 9:02 am
    20. If the pesky details work out, I would certainly like to go. I have been wanting to go to Rome for several years now.

      Comment by Melody — 2 March 2008 @ 12:46 am
    21. It would be amazing to be a part of this. I was just telling someone that I really needed to get to Rome. I converted 4 years ago and am yet to go. Now’s my chance and with such a leader! Must start saving….Thank you Fr. Z for all that you do!
