Huntington Beach, CA: weekday TLMs

This has come by e-mail:

Dear Father Z,

I thought you and your readers might like to know that beginning next week there will be low masses at St. Mary’s by the Sea in Huntington Beach, California every Monday, Thursday, and Friday at 11:00 am in addition to the High Mass  at 12:00 on Sunday.

Celebrating will be Father Eamon Mackin, who has expressed his personal wish to me that more people attend. I dearly respect Father Mackin, who is now in his senior years and yet just beginning to celebrate the extraordinary form. On my first visit to the parish, the sight of him passing in his cassock led me to know I had found the right place. Father Mackin is preparing to celebrate a High Mass at some time in the future.

Just a thought: The integration of Latin into the daily worship of a parish seems like an important step. I think people need to guard against the TLM becoming like some kind of precious antique plate only brought out on special occasions, even if that is one argument in favor of its use.

Excellent news! Well considered note at the end, too.

Given the…er…tribulations which have afflicted St. Mary’s in recent times, this is a SPECTACULAR development indeed. Cast wide the news, that such a Mass may be filled to overflowing.

I am proud to say that I lived in Bishop D’Arcy’s diocese when I studied at Notre Dame! He is really a great bishop, and great things are happening in ND too! As I said earlier, a few years ago even the Ordinary Form in Latin was a special thing at ND, and now the Extraordinary Form is becoming more an more common….step by step, as you say Fr Z.
