RIP – Fr. Basil Studer, OSB

In your goodness, please pray for the repose of the soul of Fr. Basil Studer, OSB, a monk of Engelberg in Switzerland and for decades a professor at both Sant’Anselmo and the Augustinianum. 

He died today at 1500 CET.

Studer was one of the serious working Patristic scholars.

    While I never had Father Studer, OSB, for class (my last class being in Spring 2002) at the Augustinianum, I certainly heard much of him. His book, Trinity and Incarnation (English trans.) is outstanding for presenting the core of the Catholic Faith in its historical explication through Nicea and Chalcedon. His book neither oversimplifies important distinctions nor does it get lost in details/excursions. I imagine that he lectured in the same way: clear, precise, and distinct.
