And so it begins
On TBS:
MIN @ CWS
“This blog is rather like a fusion of the Baroque ‘salon’ with its well-tuned harpsichord around which polite society gathered for entertainment and edification and, on the other hand, a Wild West “saloon” with its out-of-tune piano and swinging doors, where everyone has a gun and something to say. Nevertheless, we try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven.” - Fr. Z

Let’s go South Side ‘Sox.
GO SOX!!!
Anathema! Go Twinkies!!!
Has the Vatican said anything about rooting for the cubs as being grave matter and must be confessed?
Oh, good grief, it took me a moment to get it. I don’t have a dog in the hunt, though, since the Yanks are out.
The Yankees being out WAS my dog in the hunt. I won!
The Angels start tomorrow. Boston at Anaheim.
Go Angels!
So it begins: the annual preemption of my prime time sitcoms! Grrr!
great pitcher’s duel but you will have to wait till next year Fr Z
Twins did great for losing Santana and Hunter. Gardenhire might get manager of the year
Too bad.
Time to get out my Cubs hat.
I guess I’ll go for the Dodgers and whoever-is-playing-the-Red-Sox.
Fr. Z,
You are out of line. Be faithful to the Central Division. I hate the Twins, but if they represent the American league, they are my team.
Gardenhire is easily the top Manager in the major leagues. The Twins play the best fundamental baseball.
Let’s go White Sox!
“Has the Vatican said anything about rooting for the cubs as being grave matter and must be confessed?”
As a life long Cardinals fan this will never a problem for me.
Ahem. The original “Angels in the Outfield” was about the Pittsburgh Pirates. And they could surely use ANY help right now. Why not cheer for these lovable losers all over again?
Eamus Catuli!
Franzjosf,
It took me till the comments to get it – sort of. I expect most Europeans similarly wouldn’t have a clue. Anyway, enjoy the game, fr. Z.!
Hmm.
It looks like English …
Read it aloud and it sounds like English …
There are definitely some English words in there …
So why can\’t I understand WHAT ON EARTH you are talking about?!
Is this one of those sporty-yanks-men\’s things?
P.S. \”Yanks\” is a term of GREATEST affection for you chaps in the USA, particularly in my family. My dad was on Sword Beach on the day you all were along the coast at Omaha. We\’ll never forget it.
I’m with you Christabel. I think it may be what they laughingly call the WORLD series… ;-)
Chris: Any time an English team would like to take the field in a fit of global zeal, I am sure they could be accommodated. We have any number of Little League teams which could give them a match.
Chris, I believe the series was named after its first sponsor, the New York World. Granted, it is almost as laughable as the Lehman Brothers Series would be today…
Christabel, using “Yank” as a term of affection for chaps in the USA is like using “Welsh” as a term of affection for chaps in the UK. It’s weird how it pleases some and offends others! :-)
