Prayers requested for a dead priest

From a reader:

Fr. John Weyer, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2008. Although Father had been receiving ongoing treatment for cancer, he developed pneumonia and was admitted into ICU.  He passed away on the evening of December 4th.

Father, may I request a prayer (possibly a Mass) for this priest’s soul?  Although not a traditional minded priest, he will be missed.  Hopefully, he will not be canonized at the Funeral Mass.

I thank you in advance for your time, Father.

Of course.  I am sure people, seeing this, will stop and say a prayer for him.

He was a well loved priest from what I hear from my friends here in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Cardinal DiNardo visited Fr. John Weyer about two weeks ago knowing the end was near. From the little bit I know, he held a strong fidelity to the Church and her teachings.

    RIP Fr. John Weyer.

I believe he did the same at his prior assignment, St. Laurence in Sugar Land; if he didn’t introduce them, he certainly promoted them zealously. During his pastorate, the chapel of the parish school (K-8, now about 750 students) was enlarged and dedicated to the Divine Mercy. I was blessed to have my two daughters baptized therein.

I pray that Fr. Weyer has been fully embraced by the Divine Mercy he preached and venerated. May God grant him eternal rest, and may we who knew him never cease praying for his soul.
