    Rose in Dunn, NC

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULA — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 10:23 am

The parish of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dunn, NC the pastor Father Paul Parkerson used rose vestments, as is entirely natural, on Gaudete Sunday.

So I was alerted by a reader.

    1. Greetings!

I attended Mass at St. Clement of Rome, Des Peres, MO, and the priest wore rose vestments. As opposed to a Mass I heard of elsewhere that, despite of the availability of rose vestments, the priest wore purple.

    2. The parish of St. Mary’s in Norwalk, CT had a lovely solemn set in a decidely non-pink Rose http://hughofcluny.blogspot.com/2008/12/advent-colors.html

    3. And they were lovely vestments, too!

Here is a link to a picture with better light. Unfortunately I don’t think I can find a shot of the detail, but it was quite nice.

    4. Alli, do I spot the bottom of a biretta in that picture, or do my eyes play hopeful tricks?

    5. Rose vestments were worn at St. Joseph Church, Raleigh…..at least for the last 18 years.

    7. Blue vestments worn at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, Winchester, Ca at the evening Mass last night. I understand that special permission is needed from the bishop to wear this color. [Which I am not sure he can give.]

    8. And things were also looking “rosie” at the Church of Saint Peter in Olney, Maryland.

And, I suspect, many other places as well…

    13. your eyes do not play tricks Tyler, that is indeed a biretta. Fr Parkerson not only says a beautifully holy Mass but he has all the vestments and priestly garb to boot. I know him personally and drive 2 hours to go to Mass there when I am able.

    14. Ah! how very wonderful. I attend TLM every Sunday in Flensburg, Mn and Fr.A Hoppe has the beautiful rose vestments not only for Gaudete Sunday, but also Lateare Sunday as well. Fr Hoppe is 88yrs in Feb, he also wears a biretta at every Mass, drives his car even in this last snowstorm we had. Our traveling time is 45 min, but we love the Gregorian Rite, and Fr loves it also.
