    Someone else there had a sign about Pope Benedict’s wanting everyone to receive Holy Communion on the tongue; he had a slogan-type chant to go along with it.

    The March for Life is becoming the March for the Liturgy!

    I miss going to the March. It is always a tremendous witness to the culture of life that is always and obviously dominated by the Catholic Church. I wonder how many conversions from pro-life protestants have come about because they attended this march and clearly saw the Church that speaks with the strongest and most consistent voice for the unborn?

    It’s also a great “who’s who” for the Catholic Church in the U.S.

    Allena is on to something… find your favorite “creative” parish, figure out which buses have routes that go by there, and get the “Say the Black, Do the Red!” plastered on the side! :)

    I was there! My first march ever and I’m still trying to process all I saw, felt and want to do.
    I’m so proud to be Catholic and even more proud of all the youth that turned out for the march.

    Obama has lifted the ban on federal funding of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in providing abortions and abortion counseling.

    And he did it on Jan. 22nd.

    Nice slap in the face.

    While this is nice, it’s important not to de-focus the message by marching with all sorts of random signs for random causes, however important and good. (We’ve all laughed at the people who show up at some peace march with signs advocating recycling or nudism. We don’t want to copy that sort of person.)

    Also, considering that the March for Life includes people of all sorts of religions and none, it’s probably good to maintain a unified front, especially among Catholics.

    That said, I see the black/red sign as something of a region/club designator. :)

    Dear Fr. Z,

    To my great delight, that was me at the march. The sign was made by my 14 year old friend whose dad and sister are on my right. This family introduced me to your website. We had “save the liturgy, save the world” on the other side, because after all, babies unfortunately don’t have a shot with bad liturgy still raising its ugly head each day.

    We have pictures of our large white van with the same slogans. And I was AMAZED by the priestly support I received during our two loop circle of the capitol building (why march only once?) while carrying a sign about the importance of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. I felt like I personally laid down a lot of bricks that day.

    Hi Fr. -
    Our family are daily readers of yours (including the 14 & 16 year olds) and our son is the one who had the idea of making the sign that Roseanne was holding – he said he’ll take the free mug :) We came from the Dallas, TX area to attend the March and were bowled over. We got so much positive response that our daughter said next time we need to hand out scads of buttons

    You have a whole lot of fans out there Fr. Z, especially among all the delightful cassock-wearing seminarians I was snapping pictures of. We met many young men to pray for as well as many nuns. The sign was a great conversation starter. And for the record, the other two signs our family was holding were pro-life in nature. My favorite response to your sign – a priest walking by with a bent head simply said, “Amen”.
