“Red Planet Rover! Red Planet Rover!…”

It just hit me.

Today is the 5th anniversary of the landing of the intrepid little Mars rover “Spirit”, still plugging away.

Amazing.

And I thought my little broadcasts were complicated.

Spirit is in serious but stable condition.

I remember clearly watching over the internet the coverage of the landing and getting the first images back from the surface.  The rovers are resting right now because of the annual solar conjunction.

    It’s just amazing how much those rovers have traveled and how much data they have returned. And to think that NASA and the JPL would have considered the mission a success if they had only worked for 90 days.

    Funny, my family and I just finished watching “Mission to Mars” tonight. I have always been fascinated by the Red Planet…

    You know Fr Z, we have a lot in common I’m thinking. My major at UF was astronomy, then classics. Now I am in seminary. If you ever happen to pass through Miami, make sure to visit St John Vianney!

    Can we call this a miracle yet? I mean the fact that they have lasted so long when they were only expected to be a 90 day mission.
