I think [Pres.] Obama is going to lift the Mexico City language today, probably around 3 or 4. Classic Clintonesque news dump late on a Friday afternoon. [It’s called "take out the trash day".]
President Bush reinstated that policy … it was the [perhaps] first thing he did as president on the very first day he was in office.

At least now Congress cannot claim the ball isn’t in their court. The clearest way to have prevented overseas abortion with US funds was to have Congress pass a bill into law, of course the Republicans didn’t want to try that since it would “alienate the middle”, and it would have made a great talking point – when they talk to the right, they can use the Presidential order to support their pro-life stance; when speaking to the “middle” they can say how “tolerant” they are since they didn’t restrict abortion “rights”.

I am from South America. I ‘d like to THANK all “catholics” who voted for Obama. I know this blog has a few such readers. Thank you! Here in Brazil [But…. I checked the IP address used to post this comment. It comes up with Oklahoma City, not Brazil.] pro-life work will be much easier now that abortionist NGOs will have access to America’s deep pockets (less deep lately but things will improve; it remains a materially prosper nation).
Now I pray that this administration will indeed save millions of lives by its superb actions in fighting poverty, torture and solving world conflicts. I hope this president becomes the champion of health care and solve every malaise plaguing America. I hope that families become stronger by embracing alternative life styles, by being smaller and, why not, greener. I hope he delivers all the goodies you voters wanted. I sure hope that at the end of the day you will do the math and find that the babies offered up in sacrifice at the altar of “social justice” were worth the while, just a necessary inconvenience in the pursuit of happiness and world peace.
To the many American catholics who did not support this president, despite whatever disappointments with the alternative candidate, my apologies for the sour and acidic tone. I am just in such a state of sadness that I cannot describe.

I’ve come to think of Obama as President Death. In what situation would he value a human life? Embryonic? No. Fetal? No. Disabled? No. PVS or like PVS? No. Elderly? Probably not by these criteria.
When he spoke during the campaign of wanting the troops home from Iraq, he spoke of redirecting the funds to the various social welfare agenda items he had in mind. Talk of soldiers’ lives and personal sacrifices did not occur. He wants the money back here!
I’d sure like to see what Doug Kmiec has to say about all this….waiting…

The Mexico City policy basically meant that the U.S. would not fund international abortion efforts by various organizations. It was put into practice by Reagan, removed by Clinton, put into practice again by Bush, and now tragically removed again by Obama.
