“This blog is rather like a fusion of the Baroque ‘salon’ with its well-tuned harpsichord around which polite society gathered for entertainment and edification and, on the other hand, a Wild West “saloon” with its out-of-tune piano and swinging doors, where everyone has a gun and something to say. Nevertheless, we try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven.” - Fr. Z

I hope they’re not implying that they need to drink heavily to get through your blog, Father.
Thomas: You consider a 12 oz beer heavy drinking. Okay.
Alas, my 235 lbs. would indicate otherwise.

Mitch,
I think that there are many German priests who would love one of those!!!!! :-D
drink the black, drink the red…
Drink the black stout, Drink the red ale
what a coincidence. Our cook is sick so I made supper tonight, which was mostly beer and cheese soup (replacing the chicken stock with vegetable stock, which did not make a noticeable difference for me). The soup did not take all the beer so the cook had to finish it. The novices loved it.
Prosit???
Nazdrowie! Sto lat!
Poles invented beer, after all (and wodka too, for that matter, regardless of what our Orthodox friends to the East may claim)!
The blacker, the better. :)
“Drink the black stout, Drink the red ale”
Drink the Weissbier with a slice of lemon. Yum,yum.
Essentials
Irenaee, nigram bibe, rubram bibe. I agree. Or as the Greeks say, e pithi e apithi. (aut bibe aut abi) Either drink or go away. I would put in the Greek characters except that if Chinese does not display, what hope is there for the font of Western Civ? ;-)
Dave, didn’t the Egyptians invent beer? And Hildegard von Bingen added hops to the brew. She also vividly described the female orgasm. Bona mulier, illa! I sto lat tobie tez! (Centum annos tibi quoque!) I won’t attempt the dot on the z since neither Sinic nor Hellenic fonts display, what hope for Slavic?
Daniel K., would a pint of Guinness fit in a Fr. Z. mug? ;-0)
These are fine Christian gentlemen. God bless them.
Hello, thought you may be interested to see this new interview with Bishop Fellay. French with english subtitles.

I heard that the Holy Father likes Stuttgarter-hofbrau wheat beer:

I think the lettering should go lengthwise along the stein. That way it can be read when tilted to the horizontal.
My top three…
Schneider Weiss
Heinz vom Stein ‘Dunkles’ Hefe-Weiss
Andechs Doppel Bock
I just love Germany!
Has everyone seen the picture of a young-looking Cardinal Ratzinger drinking from a large stein? Very much the genial Bavarian.
Priester in Deutschland:
Can you really say that Schneider Weisse is better than Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier? I think not…
Now Andechs is something else entirely. I hope you are able to frequent (and I mean frequent) Kloster Andechs. I have never had a better beer in my life.
And what about Altbier? Enjoying an Altbier in Düsseldorf is a beautiful thing.
wsxyz,
Well, the Schneider was my first weissbier so I listed that as my first for sentimental reasons…I’m sure you understand. I’ve been the Kloster Andechs quite a few times, so I know what you mean. I have had the Weihenstephaner Hefe-Weisse…oh ja das ist aber gut but the Korbinian…now das ist ein gutes Bier!
Well, in any case de gustibus you know…;)
Veritas:
Do you have the picture handy? I would love to see it.
Here is a link to Cardinal Ratzinger with a glass of bier:

Eine kleine Biermusik bitte, Herr Mozart?
Im Himmel gibt’s kein Bier,
Drum trinken wir es hier.
Denn sind wir nicht mehr hier,
Dann trinken die andern unser Bier.
Ach du lieber! Was für einen eschatologischen Albtraum! [What an eschatological nightmare!]
Here is the Holy Father- in clerical garb- enjoying a stein of Bier:
