What is up at the feeder, you ask?
I shot a few birds today.
Purple Finch is having some lunch. Actually, he looks like pinicola enucleator, no?
The intrepid Chickadee is snacking at another feeder.
They grab a seed and then fly to a convenient perch where they pry the seed open.
Busted… oh well…
There is a new comer!
Not sure who this is. UPDATE: A commenter says this is White-throated Sparrow, Zonotrichia albicollis!
But we know who he is!
This Chickadee has struck gold.
A Robin is having a bath in the Sabine Stream, just down from way from the Fons Bandusiae. They bathe often and needs lots of fresh water.
I would like to get a webcam on the hummingbird feeder which I must set up. Also, I need to get a feeder with a broader base that birds such as Cardinals like.

Yes, it is a White-throated Sparrow, Zonotrichia albicollis. They just disappeared from my backyard for more northern environs.
I had a sudden craving for roast beef when I first saw these pictures – the result, I’m sure, of last week’s feeder pictures being accompanied by pictures of that delicious looking rib roast.

Robins are working on a nest somewhere near my office window – I watch them looking for mud after the sprinklers have been on.

You must have heard my bird enthusiast 14 yo son who complained earlier today that you hadn’t posted any new bird pictures in a while. Thanks! He will be thrilled to see them when he gets home this evening!

Old retired children’s librarian that I am, the picture book, “Round Robin” immediately comes to mind. Ever notice that robins do more hopping and filling up on juicy worms than flying? That’s why they get so round and fat. It’s also why (and I don’t mean this as a sick joke, but it’s true) I’m prone to say to someone on a crisp April morning after I’ve steered around a flattened one in the middle of the road, “I just saw the first dead robin of spring.”

I hear cardinals chirp outside my window in the morning-I think robins too. They sing loudest before it rains….it’s cooler today.
Father, I have to say that I really appreciate you posting your very nice shots of the bird life you have around you. Creation is full of beauty, and that is easy to forget sometimes.
