22 Aug: blognic at Scotney Castle, in Kent

This is excellent.  From The Sensible Bond posts this news about the upcoming anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth Field… well… that’s not really the … just read:

Fr Mildew is organising a blognic at Scotney Castle, near Lamberhurst in Kent, on Saturday 22nd August (Free entry for any National Trust members). Blognickers will gather at 12pm at the Tea Room and hope for good weather! Bring a picnic as there is only a small cafe.

I was gutted to miss the London blognic due to a post-viral thingy, so I’m looking forward to trundling down to Kent a week on Saturday and hobnobbing with the assembly.

Further details are available here.

Another point of this is that my term blognic is starting to get some traction.

Someone asked me the other day whether this ‘Blognic’ was something to do with the Medjugorie Franciscans … It took me a little while to get that! Sorry you won’t be in the country to join us, Fr Z.

    Great! FR. Z, Wordsmith!

I was unaware, Fr. Z, that you had originated the term “blognic”. Ah, the fascination with novelty of these young priests! Kidding :) Seriously, you’ve become a force to be reckoned with in this virtual world, fashioning your own neologisms for general use.

  4. Thomas G: I think I was…. at least in a sense.

Years ago, when I was still dealing with Compuserve as a Wizop, there were people across the US organizing what they called “Cisnics”, for “Compuserve Information Service picnic”. There would be calls for CIS users to meet at an appointed place and time.

    So, I thought of “blognic”.

However, I just did a search on the term and found it used a couple times with dates before I started the WDTPRS blog for what seems to be a similar idea: an appointed social meeting. I don’t recall if I ever used it in the Catholic Online Forum.

If I could think of it, it stands to reason that others could as well. Still, I came up with it on my own.

Whoever for the very first time put the ideas together and gave us the word, I hope people pick up on it. It is a fun word, and a fun thing to do!
