I accompanied my pregnant wife (5th month) for her ultrasound today. My gut feeling that our baby would be a boy, was right! :)

I am blessed to live in a diocese (Arlington, VA) where we have many options for the TLM and an excellent adult education program which is teaching orthodoxy and promoting catholic culture to arm faithful Catholics with knowledge of their faith so they can go out and evangelize! Jennywren- I have relatives in the Arlington diocese and they visited recently with their little children. Their little boys were talking about cassocks and surplices, Latin, Gregorian chant, and ad orientem worship like they were completely run-of-the-mill.

Prayers answered today!
- Wanted to attend Mass with parish School for Saint Louis our local patron saint. Business impeded. Asked son to pray for me. Indeed he did. Said he prayed all the way to the opening of Mass. Meeting was moved to Wednesday, was able to attend at last minute
- Was able to explain my presence to younger son due to the prayers of older brother :)
- 6-yr old miraculous cancer survivor doing well and still cancer free at 6-month post treatment point
- co-worker released form hospital arrives home after first round in leukemia treatments
- Wife’s brother in-law not on the laid off list during actions today

Dear Father Z, I don’t know how often you click on our names, but if you click on mine, you’ll see a most delightfully pudgy baby girl discovering the sand for the very first time. It might seem small to some, but I think THAT is good news. Of course, I’m her Mama. :)
Also, I’ve been invited to sing Messiah in it’s entirety with a professional choir. I am humbled, to be sure. Thanks be to God for everyday blessings!
m_kramer: My wife had a miscarriage last year, so this would be hopefully be the first! So far so good. We followed our priest’s advice on getting the traditional blessing (for expected mothers) done as soon as we found out. Now, we’ve begun to expose our unborn baby with Gregorian chants. ;)
My new university is exceptionally orthodox in its teaching of the faith and a group within it offers a solemn high TLM on First Fridays and major feasts! On both the Vigil of the Assumption and the feast itself the next day, the entire church was absolutely packed for the TLMs offered, and mostly with younger people too!
After a year of regular attendance at the TLM I have been invited by the priest to learn to serve at the altar. My first training session was this evening and I took to it very well. I am very grateful for this opportunity as I never had a chance to do this as a child.
my parents exposed me to chant before I was born…never took me to an extraordinary form Mass save once when i was 7 (but I dont remember much from it)…a few years later I found it myself and now I’m the schola director at the Cathedral in Springfield, MO for the Extraordinary Form LOL…so be careful with what you expose him to right now! He could be singing it all very early on!!

Our small city just finished having daily Latin Mass, thanks to Father Ryan who was visiting home for his summer vacation. My seven year-old son took the opportunity to begin to learn to serve at the Mass. After attending the Mass in Latin almost daily for three weeks my wife complained that she found it difficult going back to the “regular” Mass “it just doesn’t seem as…. reverant.” Latin Mass will continue weekly.
Our city also has a newly ordained priest who has expressed an interest in learning the Latin Mass. The two priests presently celebrating the Mass are in their seventies or eighties (both “retired”), so we will need a priest to take the torch and carry on the tradition.
For the first time I attended an EF Mass last week. And when I go to college, there will be a parish within walking distance that has an EF every day except Saturday.
I’ve just sent in my form for another retreat with the Benedictines of St. Meinrad. I am discerning a call to be a Benedictine Oblate.
My dear granddaughter will be 1 on September 15th and is the sweetest little girl ever. I pray for her health, happiness and that she will grow to love God.
Our daughter has just begun her first year of college, double majoring in violin performance and journalism.
We have a new principal at the Catholic school where I work. He’s very no-nonsense and the changes he has made thus far reflect his goal of instilling a sense of modesty and respect in the students.
All my paperwork is in the hands of the order I’ve been (as a very late second career man) discerning.
So, it’s all up to the Blessed Mother whether she’s willing to have me as a servant of her Son.
My granddaughter, our 1st, will be baptized this Sunday after mass, by our Deacon, a very reverent man of over 78 years of age, he baptized 4 of our five children, sadly a NO, not a traditional Latin Mass within 60 miles of here yet.

After over a year of waiting I was finally approved for Canadian permanent residence. Which means no longer having to periodically leave the country and be separated from my wife or having to hang around here as a visitor not allowed to do anything. Now I can get a job instead of reading this blog all day :P

Thanksgiving that this summer has been relatively cool and mild, since in about 24 hours we will be greeting our second son! Prayers for a safe delivery (I’m having a c-section) and the strength to be a parent to two small boys (our oldest is 2 1/2) would be appreciated.
I start work at a second office today. I hope and pray that I will be able to make a difference in the lives of the people of the little town.
My wife’s doctor finally gave her the thumbs up to have a surgery that will allow us to have children!
I have returned to the seminary for the third of five years of priestly formation and my diocese has 37 seminarians total, and nine new seminarians this year alone.
I start a new job this coming Monday.
The State MR drive for the Knights of Columbus in Missouri is kicking off, and our council landed some excellent places to collect for those that cant always help themselves. Excited about this, its one more way to make a difference
I have another one: A deacon from my seminary who was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in January will be ordained a priest on Saturday…

Besides Sunday Vespers, we now have Lauds following 7am Mass on weekdays. So many good things are happening. Every Thursday we continue all day Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Fr. James Fryar, FSSP, will give a 3 day Mission in September. Last year’s Mission was outstanding. Latin classes will be offered again, twice a week starting in September. A series on “Genesis” will also be starting, followed by a series on the “Psalms.” Meanwhile Fatima Procession and Rosary continue every month through October. Our spiritual life is well tended in Sacramento. Deo Gratias.
We enjoyed Mater Ecclessiae’s 9th Annual Solemn High Mass of the Assumption. We hope that next year Father Z. will attend again.

Yahoo! News reports that Arlington, Virginia, is on a list of the ten cities least affected by the economic downturn. You might pay as much as double for the price of a house, depending on where you’re from, but it could be worse.
My parish has confessions every week day and this morning I reeived the Sacrament! Deo Gratias! Good to go for another day.
As an aside, and in remembrance of some joyous news, today, August 26, is the 31st anniversary of the election of Albino Luciani as Pp John Paul I, remembered as the “smiling pope”.
Only lasted for a little less than 5 weeks. But, like a meteor in the sky, he was, for that short time, our Holy Father.
Got a new license plat in Virginia; they now have bright yellow “CHOOSE LIFE”. Everytime I sit at the light, I notice the car behind me staring at it mouthing the number…a great way to spread the faith!

In 2 weeks I start RCIA!! I am responding to a longing placed in my heart about 40 years ago when I was “adopted” as a teenager by a loving Catholic family. My best friend’s family was a port in the storm for me at a miserable time in my life. Attending Mass and CCD? classes helped me more than they could have known. In this year of the Priest I fondly remember Fr. Condon from St. Mary’s in Edgefield, SC. Southern Baptist roots run deep for me and when the longing turned into a very powerful ache 4 years ago I started a prayerful, thoughtful, studied, and emotional decision making process. It is time……..and I just can’t wait! God willing, I will receive the Holy Eucharist at Eastertide.

A car that even after a tow and a $600 repair bill still overheated. While I’m sure those were graces meant by the good Lord to help me grow in virtue, I am particularly thankful to the friend who came out to rescue me from a freeway off-ramp in the wee hours of the morning and for a second repair finding of a mere bubble in the line, which was remedied with no further cost.

The MEF comes to Wilmington, NC, this Sunday, for the first time, to my knowledge, in many years.
St. Mary, 220 South Fifth Street, Wilmington, NC 28401, on the last Sunday of each Month, 7pm, beginning 30 August 2009. The Mass on 30 August will be a Solemn High Mass. The priest will be Fr. Paul Parkerson.
Pray that we have no hurricanes.
Only 1053 days until Bishop Clark of Rochester, NY retires. It’s been a long 30 years.
I’ve just recently realized that actual graces are unstoppable. This thought is very consoling. These graces are the antidotes, the answers, to all of the stoppables (or stumbling blocks) around us. Thanks be to God that we have such an awesome God.
The Summer in Texas is almost over! Tomorrow it is supposed to be a cool 89. Every summer is a test of endurance. How many 100+ days of heat can you withstand?
And better news is I will be in Lourdes is 8 days!
I’m almost two weeks into religious life with the Augustinians right now and it is going beautifully. I’ve been taken advantage of some great prayer opportunities, praying the Rosary in front of the Blessed Sacrament just before bed, spending time in silent prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament first thing in the morning. I’m loving the rhythm of community prayer.
Also, our vocations numbers are continuing to rise, and more and more men keep contacting our vocations director wanting to talk. The vocations director is part of the national vocations conference (whatever it’s called) and just came back from Chicago to discuss the recent CARA report on vocations, and while our guys do still typically wear the habit while working and we do pray in community, he has taken very seriously the findings that vocations are looking for traditional orders faithful to the teachings of the Church. The guys in my class and the men contacting him all are very traditional and orthodox, so that bodes quite well for the future of the Order and the Church.
I have come home from a cancer operation and I feel remarkably well thanks to prayers and Masses, surviving a dramatic drug reaction as well. I can comment on blogs!!!Please pray the disease is truly gone. I find out next week….God be praised in all things.
