The Feeder Feed

It is a blustery day and the birds are dealing with wind and rain.

As it gets colder, they start doing their puff ball thing.

I still have House Finches.

The sun pops out and the leaves are putting on a show.

With this wind, I don’t think they will last.

This Chickadee is going for the high fat food.

New comers.

The Goldfinch Eating Team is not at all daunted by the wind blown rain.

As winter sets in, I will be feeding the birds from your donations.

    Love the birds!

  2. Dr. Eric says:

I find it interesting that the leaves have already changed where you are and near St. Louis, where I live, the leaves are all still green.

  3. gloriainexcelsis says:

In the Sierra foothills, here at 2000-3000 feet the leaves are just beginning to fall here and there and some color is appearing. We have a mini-New England here. The Cornish miners and easterners who came to the gold rush brought or had deciduous seedlings sent. They tired of the evergreen forests. Though not as profuse as back East, we have a glorious share of rust, blazing red, orange and yellow to brighten the fall days. I still have goldfinches and house finches. The scrub jays and acorn woodpeckers will stay, as will the house finches. The first chickadee arrived yesterday, October 1, rather early! Perhaps winter is coming sooner rather than later?

  4. Beautiful birds and scenery. Here in Texas our trees and grass are still green, although it is already starting to get chilly, which is unusual. My hummingbirds I sent you pictures of are gone it appears; I miss them.

  5. Agnes says:

Z, your bird sounds like my kids, unfortunately. Quit complaining and just EAT!

I hear woodpeckers hammering away at the wood siding at times. Any remedy? (besides new siding!)

  6. Hey Fr. Z … just thought I would let you know that your pictures do not show up in Google Chrome … they are beautiful in Firefox though.

  7. Luke says:

Is that your homestead, or a neighbors’s? The surrounding tree are just gorgeous! Fr. von Balthasar wrote in the Glory of the Lord that “within the beautiful the whole person quivers.” Fall leaves count as beauty in my book for sure.

  8. Puffy birds and colored trees make me so happy! :D

  9. Therese says:

It’s going to be a beautiful fall. (Good thing, too, as we didn’t have much of a summer here in Minnesota.)

  10. Therese: The summer that wasn’t!

    Low A/C bills, though!

The birds are cute as usual, Fr. Z!

Love the ‘puffball’ goldfinch [the first photo].

    The last photo is hilarious!
