Warm lunch on rainy windy day

It’s raining and blowing in blustery Manhattan.

On such a day I am glad that the rectory is so close to one of the best Chinese restaurants on the island.

Thus as I wait for the main I am enjoying some Hot Sour Soup.

UPDATE:

Beef and bamboo and black mushroom and ginger and hot peppers with spinach.

    Cooking turkey soup here in a rainy MD, with a nice white wine, and a freshly baked bagette.

    There is fog; dripping eaves, melting snow–not very inspiring, but that’s just fine. The Lord is with us!

    Hot and Sour Soup! My favorite. Makes me want to brave the snow and find an asian grocery right now to get the ingredients. Wood Ears are good for high blood pressure too.

    It usually has shredded tofu, pork, wood ear mushroom, and bamboo shoots.

    Fr. Z – thanks to your conversation about the Keurig home brewing machine, and my subsequent conversation about it to the family, I received one for Christmas !! I’m enjoying a medium Italian roast coffee made minutes ago. I have only had this machine for 24 hours, but I love it ! My kids all love hot tea and hot cocoa and now we can all have just what we would like at any time. Works great !

    My wife makes the best Hot and Sour Soup- she adds and subtracts from a Martin Yan recipe.

    By the way, there is also an herbal medicine in which the main ingredient is Wu Long tea. The prescription is for the diagnosis of “fatness.” The Chinese have a way of calling a spade a spade.

    As an aside, my wife works for The Republic of Tea and Wu Long Cha is her favorite. If you call them, ask for Amber.

    The “Beef and bamboo and black mushroom and ginger and hot peppers with spinach,” looks fabulous? What kind of “hot” peppers, may I ask? This is a recipe I’ll try to reconstruct! The best Chinese food I ever had was in Los Angeles’ China Town–an establishment in business since the Second World War. The food there was just unreal. Maybe the food–along with his thirst for souls–was why St. Francis Xavier set out for China…

    The absolute best Chinese restaurant in Manhattan is Au Mandarin in the World Financial Center. It’s sorta fancy. If you are not able to on this trip, make a point of visiting on your next.
