Curling?……uh, okay.
You’d never have guessed it, but curling has become quite popular in China because of the recent success of the Chinese women’s team. Curling is one of the sports covered the most on Chinese TV coverage of the Olympics, and Chinese fans are becoming pretty knowledgable. I was staying with a friend’s family over the Spring Festival (up in Hohhot Inner Monglolia) and the father of the house was telling us what strategy to use and what throw to try next–I was pretty impressed. I got to see the Chinese women in person in Japan back in 2007 and 2008 at the curling tournament in Karuizawa they have there every year–they’re the real deal. And I’m really happy that now they managed to knock off Canada in 11 ends–Zhongguo Dui, jia you!
