St. Peter’s Basilica watch

I was going through some things and found an old watch I haven’t used for a while.

You might find it interesting.

Closer.  Note the appropriate roman numerals.

It wants a battery, but it remains amusing…. and exact twice a day!

UPDATE

I was out on errands and got a new battery put in.  It runs just fine!

      Made in China?

    2. dimsum: I don’t think so. It doesn’t say anything on the back. It was made for the Vatican Museum by Art Age.

    3. Thomas G. says:

Gosh, I want one! Where do I get it?

    4. I got it in Rome many years ago. I suspect you are not going to find one.

I could probably be convinced eventually to part with it.

      Fr. Z’s auctions?
      Zbay?

That’s one way to clean out your house Father. :-)

    6. AMDeiG says:

Must have been the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989 that put the kabosh on the watch.

“On October 17, 1989, at 5:04:15 pm (Pdt) a magnitude 7.1 earthquake severely shook the greater San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas”

    7. AMG: I don’t get that… but… that’s okay.

The watch runs very well. I put a new battery in it today.

    8. AMG:…. oooohhhh… I get it now.

    9. Rob Cartusciello says:

I will see your St. Peter’s watch and raise you one Pope John Paul II bottle opener.

Get it now before the canonization raises the price.

    10. Rob: Does your bottle opener also have a watch?

    11. dimsum says:

Fr. Z, Would you trade it for either my Chairman Mao or my Chinese numerals watches? :)

    12. An American Mother says:

How about my official, autographed, Lester Maddox Wake Up America alarm clock?

    13. dimsum: Would you trade it for either my Chairman Mao

How to put this delicately, so that I don’t have to throw myself out of the combox….

      ummm….

      NO!

    14. Actually, folks, I remember involving this watch in Z-Chat once and a participant got very excited about it.

Maybe that Z-Bay idea isn’t so bad after all!

    15. Rob Cartusciello says:

The JPII (1990 edition) bottle opener does not have a clock.

I should clarify that it is a “church key” bottle opener – and intended to open soda & beer bottles, not wine bottles.

A truly enterprising individual would release a JPII Santo Subito edition.

Perhaps the folks at Holy Whapping might be interested. (Hope you’re reading this, Matt.)
