What’s wrong with this picture

I thought this was unusual. An ad on an NYC subway car.

“Cleanup” is not verb. It should read “clean up.” While a comma after “blemishes” is unfortunately now considered optional by modern grammarians, there should definitely be a comma after “spots” Of course, nowadays we live in a world where grammar and usage aren’t important, which spills over into every other aspect of our lives, including liturgy.

  2. frhoisington says:

I wonder if this is an advertisement for that marvel of modern medicine (pardon the sarcasm): the Pill. Who better to market this to than the plebs who ride the subway (again, more sarcasm)?

  3. Brian Day says:

I’m sure that Dr Zizmor is a decent man, but when I first read it I saw “Zitmor”. Embarrassing on my part and ironic if correct.

  4. r.j.sciurus says:

I am with Mr. Day above and thought he should change his name to Zitless.

  5. r.j.sciurus says:

Wait, does the small box say, “every patient treated by Dr. Z.”???

  6. Carolina says:

Also, the colours in the rainbow are in the wrong order.

  7. scaron says:

Not sure, but it kind-of looks like a picture taken in a mirror. Which, if it is, means the original ad is backwards? meant to be read in a mirror?

  8. Tom in NY says:

Dr. Zizmor has been advertising with the NYCTA for at least 20 years. Those with eastern European backgrounds may make an interesting connection very fast. And indeed, the small black box lower left-center does say “Dr. Z.”

But in an earlier day, did patients need to verify their cure with Dr. Cohen to return to the community?

    Salutationes omnibus.

  9. FrCharles says:

Dr. Zizmor’s ads used to have a image of the man himself, or at least I presumed it to be so. Perhaps he has aged since I first lived in NYC.

  10. marypatricia says:

It looks like a photo of a billboard outside taken from inside the carriage.

  11. Traductora says:

Dr Zizmor has been around and raising comments for ages. There also used to be a hemorrhoid surgeon with a very evocative name who advertised on the subways, but fortunately I’ve forgotten his name.

  12. DanW says:

Traductora, was it Dr. Pyle? LOL

  13. ghp95134 says:

Obviously, in German “Zizmor” is pronounced “Zitsmor”, an oxymoronic name for a clear-skin cream.

  14. Jahaza says:

We New Yorkers have long mused about a meeting between Fr. Z and Dr. Z.

  15. syaklin says:

Dr. Zizmor is pictured on the advertisement. His ads are on my commute subway train. I believe that’s his shoulder on the lower left. And indeed, it states that all patients are treated by Dr. Z!
