I did as you asked. And I hope this will be an encouragement for other bishop to do as Bp. Slattery has done–offer a beautiful High Mass and preach an incredible homily. These were words I basically have only read in books. It is good to hear them preached. We need more than to be affirmed in our laziness and comfort; we need to be taught how to pray and how to journey on the road to holiness.
I sent a thanks, but I doubt he will read it.

Your Excellency, I am so grateful to you for offering the Pontifical High Mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. You not only made a beautiful Mass possible; with your inspired sermon, you taught us how to make sure that every Mass we attend for the rest of our lives is beautiful. You taught us to transform our suffering through obedience, and to bring it all to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, to unite it with Our Lord’s own suffering. Thank you for bringing us Christ.

Was happy to do so…Hope he talks with fellow Bishops about what a good turnout it was and how he feels doing this form of Mass. One thing for sure, he has alot of support amongst the Faithful and from many who can not vocally correspond or have internet to write a note of Thanks. I mentioned it to a co-worker and her response was “Wish that Bishop were here”.

A lady from Michigan who went to the ‘Call to Holiness’ conference you did last fall is going to send me a copy of the Mass on DVD for me. I don’t have EWTN except when I go online at the library or another place that has Wi-Fi. So maybe I should send EWTN a message of thanks, too, as a couple of the above commentors have mentioned.

Well, guess what happened.
I followed Fr Z’s request that we do what we can to thank Bishop Slattery for his celebration of the Pontifical Mass and his marvelous sermon at the National Shrine in DC, and I get a reply from him!
I hope I am not being prideful in sharing this with you all, as this is where we all got the idea from. Perhaps it was just a form letter he sent to everybody. But I was most gratified to receive this, and I’m from Australia!
Celebrating Mass at the National Shrine on Saturday was a moment of grace for me, as it was – evidently – for many Catholics throughout the nation.
Thank you, Andrew, for you kind words which I read and found most encouraging. I am grateful that you took the time to express your thoughts so well.
Please continue to pray for me, for our Holy Father, Pope Benedict, and for the whole Church that this period of suffering be for all of us a time of purification that leads to holiness. Jack in KC, I love bishops Finn and Naumann (Archbishop Naumann is my sheperd). I thought of Archbishop Naumann while listening to the podcast of Bishop Slattery’s sermon. Their voices sounds similar. God has blessed the middle of this country with some great bishops!

AnAmericanMother-I went on the EWTN “Religious Catalogue’ and noticed it had several DVDs of past EF Masses that have been done at the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama. So they might have one of the Mass from the National Shrine. The one I’m going to get from my friend is for my own private use. But I’ll look from time to time on EWTN’s site if they will have one available.

This is an old film with Archbishop Fulton Sheen doing the commentary, but this is the first time I had ever seen the Solemn High Mass (Tridentine). My grandparents had the video. I’ve been in love with it ever since, though I strayed from the Church for over 20 years. (But I’m back, thank the Lord and His Blessed Mother!)
