The Feeder Feed, et al.

From the Feeder.Twitter

Here is, I am pretty sure Chipping Sparrow, who likes millet.

Not sure who this is.

Mr. and Mrs. Cowbird, though I wish they would find another food source.

Today I spotted the first Long-billed Thrasher, or Taxostoma longirostre, appropriate for 15 April in so many ways.

Then there is Carrusfederatus expressus, always a welcome sight.

Though this species doesn’t come nearly as often as I would like.

There is also, Carrusruber parvus.

Nice color scheme… that.

Not to be outdone …

Is it just my computer, or did the pictures not come through? I always love them, Father!

I rarely get any of the pictures posted….any suggestions? Thanks!

I think the bird in the second photo in a song sparrow. They’re very common where I live.

I’ve read that the “nuisance birds” (cowbirds, starlings, etc.) don’t like safflower seeds, but of course it costs more than sunflower and other common bird seed.

  4. Migration has really kicked in. I am particularly fond of sparrows and they will love your white millet. Your unknown sparrow is indeed a Song Sparrow. They tip their heads back to sing, knowing their song is so lovely. Your Thrasher is a Brown Thrasher. They have a varied song, but every phrase is sung in pairs.

  5. All the photos come up on all the browsers on my computer: IE, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari.

I’ve had this same problem for a while now, but another user has thankfully provided a fix.

Load the blog page with the pictures (this doesn’t work on the main site), then click refresh.

I just saw a visitor (a house finch) at one of my new feeders for the first time this evening! :)

Thank you Fr. Z. for inspiring me to feed the birds and for all that you do. You are in my prayers.

Photos come up fine on my computer and my iphone.

Father, is that your pickup? It’s awesome! I’d love to have one.

  9. That’s not my old pickup, alas.

@Agapified – thanks for that refresh suggestion. I couldn’t figure out why someimtes I could see the pictures and sometimes I couldn’t, but your fix seems to work!

Maybe it is a pipit sort…meadow or tree?
My 6 yo daughter and I are looking through bird books right now. Thanks for the photos!

The cardinal is spectacular. I am ready to move back to the real world; we just got six inches of snow yesterday and there are no birds or flowers. Bah!

(Love your bird pictures; mine never come out – on the rare occasion I see anything smaller than an eagle or a snow owl)

It’s so cool how you get the close-ups of the birdies on the ground, Fr. Z!

I had one little sparrow perch on a cedar bush outside my living-room window recently-but, alas, I have no digital camera to take photos and no knowledge of posting them on the Net.

    Your pictures are the best!

Beautiful pictures. That old pickup truck is a beauty, too. Someone obviously gives it lots of tlc. Thank you for taking time out to show us the birds, Fr. Z. It’s good to stop and enjoy the birds, dig in the dirt, plant something, etc. It does the spirit whole lots of good.
