The Feeder Feed

I haven’t posted much from the feeder, these days.Twitter

Right now the baby Goldfinches are buzzing around, making noises like squeaky-toys and incessantly following their parents.   They flap their wings, squeak, and beg.

More begging action.

A large flock of turkeys recently changed their roaming habits.  They regularly troop the line in front of the house now.

These Chicakdees are doing their High Noon thing.  The one on the right is particularly fearsome, don’t you think?

Here is a finch having a splash in the base of the feeder after a heavy rain.

Turkey’s? Turkeys. I always thought you had a great variety of birds, but now I’m sure the birds must be reading your blog or, or..they follow you on Twitter! They know where the good stuff is!

I so enjoy your bird photos, love the dueling chickadees and the kinda late baby goldfinchs.

    Thanks for sharing your birdz!

Those goldfinches look a little ‘big’ to be called ‘babies’, aren’t they? But they must sound cute when they ‘squeek’!

Whoa-you sure got a lot of WILD TURKEYS (said with a ‘southern accent’) on your lawn!

The ‘dueling chickadees’ are funny-especially the one who is all puffed up and ‘ticked off’!

I live about 30 miles from Mammoth Cave and I love to go there and hike. *Every* time I go, I see turkeys, and a couple of weeks ago, a flock of them walked across my yard.

They are delicious – my brother hunts them when they are in season.

*wonders if Chickadees can tweet the theme from The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly*

I love these photos. I see turkeys almost everyday on my way to the college where I teach a few classes. They seem more bold than usual. As to goldfinces, they left the area already and we have not seen any babies.

Chickadees were singing loudly last week, but I have not heard them this week. We have very large barn owls around, however, and perhaps they have scared the other birds away.

Father Z, Thanks so much for the update from the feeder feed. Thanks also now for the email capability. Just sent the feeder feed link to some friends who love birds, love their Faith. I’m not sure if they read you, but maybe now they will. They also drink coffee!

Also wanted to share that I regularly see osprey sitting on high lamp-posts on a bridge over the San Diego River, which isn’t really much of a river, but there are fish in there. Seems there was a nesting pair because I definitely saw a juvenile in all his disheveled size and glory a few months back. Just last week saw him again all grown up and looking for prey. Just love God’s creation right in our midst.

Agreeing with Ellen above. Wild turkey is delicious! Why would anyone who had ever tasted it cook one of those stock-injected, hormone-filled, cage-grown, store-bought things.

  10. susanna says:

We have wild turkeys right within the city limigs. And some on city council.
Are those trad versus novus ordo chickadees?

  11. susanna: They are hungry chickadees. Send a donation!
