Actually, Burnett got dropped from the lineup for the series with the Twins, it’s Sabbathia tonight. They are going to try to make it with only 3 starters – Sabbathia, Petit, and Hughes.
Father, are you going to be at the pontifical mass in NYC Thursday? You may have to go in plain clothes after dropping that comment out there. Those people are crazy up there! Remember the “John Rocker Incident”?

You go, Father. When asked who I root for, my stock answer is always “Who’s playing the Yankees”.
Self-congratulating dynasties, overpaid self-indulgent athletes, and people with an over-blown sense of entitlement deserve to be crushed, thrown into the pit, and covered in brimstone.

Let’s see… This past weekend –
The Yankees won in an undistinguished manner Saturday afternoon.
The Yankees lost in an undistinguished manner Saturday night (I was there. Both teams played poorly. )
The Sox beat the Yankees on Sunday.
To say the Sox “toyed with” the Yankees is a gross exaggeration.
I root for the Yankees. I have no idea how they will do. I think they are capable of winning it all again, but there are other very good teams in the playoffs and the Yankees have not played well of late.
I think there are a couple of points that are to the Yankees’ benefit in facing the Twins now, as opposed to the second round.
1. If Morneau is still out (the last preview I read, a few days ago, said he might be back for the 2nd round but would miss the first), then the Twins lineup is not as good as it might be.
2. Being the first round, The Yankees had time to arrange their starting pitching.
Forget the baseball games! Of course, this is from a total football freak. However, I must finally comment on one of the best Ad-men in the business, Fr. Z. The “mystic” monks should pay you an agent’s commission! I look forward to getting to the end of some blogs (don’t take that the wrong way; that didn’t sound quite right) just to see your clever endorsements! Keep ’em coming.
We know who the Princes of the Church will be rooting for this October… GO REDS!

Go Twins. We’ve done great without Morneau, and I’m praying he’ll be better by Spring Training, but we’re ready this year. We gave it all we had in game 163 last fall, and we didn’t have anything left when we went to New York, but now.. they’re in our House and we’re ready. Death to the Yankees!

In 2004, the Red Sox were without star slugger Nomar Garciaparra, and faced a dreaded Yankees team that had plumbed new depths of the word “curse” the previous year.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Here’s hoping the 2010 Twins have the same mojo without the beloved Morneau.

PPS…I love the fact that, among all the other records they possess, the Yankees are the ONLY baseball team EVER to blow a 3-0 lead. That, my friends, was, is, and probably forever will be, the gold standard for choking. Don’t forget this when all the other accolades are trotted out this weekend.
I have no special feelings for the Twins, but they are playing against all that is unholy in baseball. Down with the Yanks! Ite Gemini!

The difference being that Morneau has been unavailable due to injury (he suffered a concussion, right?).
If I recall correctly, the Red Sox got rid of Nomar during that season.
In thanksgiving for the near-perfect performance of our pitching machine Roy Halladay, I ordered a bag of Espresso for Mr. Girgadis and a Mystic Monk hoodie for me. We live a few miles from the ballpark and during the playoffs, it’s easy to mistake the roar of the crowd for a freight train headed toward our house. It reallly does get that loud. Red October – God help me, I do love it so!
