SUDDEN IMPROMPTU PRECIPITOUS LONDON BLOGNIC TODAY 6:30 pm

This evening I will at the Buckingham Arms in Petty France, near St James’s Park tube station at 6:30 pm.

My intention is to go this afternoon either to the V&A or the Tate Britain… both?… knowing myself one or the other… and then to the Buckingham Arms at 6:30 for a pint.  Then we shall see what happens after that.

I don’t need to take a poll because I am going there to meet someone anyway!

I am not 100% well, but I should have energy to do this.  I may not be able to talk a lot, which will be a plus.

You can, if you wish, contribute to buying a pint by clicking the flag!

SMS me (don’t send MMS) at 07501852559.

    Father Z,

I am concerned about your health. Please stick with either very good whiskey, as the British use the term, such as Macallan12 of 25, or Guinness.

  2. roamincatholic says:

    Guinness?! No way.

Father, I do hope that, especially since you have been spending time with His Hermeneuticalness, you are having a pint of Real Ale. A well-pulled ale from the cask is exactly what you need to cure the common british cold.

But really, if there was one thing I miss most about not being in England any longer, it’s Real Ale. That, and pork crackling.

    Might I recommend a Bishop’s Tipple?

    Arrrrrr….

For my wife and I it was the Royal Exchange Pub in Paddington at the corner of Sale Place and St. Michaels. The best Roast Beastie and Yorkshire pudding we had. A tiny Free House but well worth it.

  4. pseudomodo says:

    Then again…

We also enjoyed St Stephen’s Tavern at 10 Bridge Street in the shadow of Big Ben.

  5. I know about His H’s penchant for real ale. Bishop’s Finger I believe. But it has been hard to get him to rendezvous on the fly!

  6. BTW the V&A was FANTASTIC.

  7. we are here and having fun…

  8. Genna says:

The Bishop’s Finger is a great pub. It’s in Smithfield where religious dissenters were burned at the stake. There is a wonderful medieval church St Bartholomew the Great there, closed at this time of night of course. If you want a solid meal, I suggest the Bleeding Heart tavern just down the road on the corner of Bleeding Heart Yard and Greville Street, off Hatton Garden. Enjoy the blognic. I’ll be there in spirit!
btw whisky is the Scotch variety, whiskey is the Irish one.

  9. The Kernel says:

And to think I was in that neighbourhood this afternoon… :-s Ah well, next time.

  10. The Kernel: You should watch the blog! I might have one tomorrow!

  11. Supertradmum says:

sorry for the spelling error on whiskey, but my spell check only accepts this one

Bishop’s Tipple is ok, but not one of my favorites.

Another good place to eat is Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street. Samuel Smith was served there when I was there.

  12. Supertradmum says:

    romanincatholic,

What do you think about Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout?

  13. roamincatholic says:

I actually have never had one… but it’s getting to be the season for Stout. I’ll have to look it up!

    Fr. Z– here’s a link on the Bishop’s Tipple:
