PASCHALCAzT 49: Easter Tuesday – Finding the bones of St. Paul

These 5 minute daily podcasts are intended to give you a small boost every day and a little insight into Easter and its Octave.

Today is Tuesday in the Octave of Easter. Happy Easter to all!

The Roman Station is St. Paul’s outside-the-walls on the Via Ostiense. The custom of Roman Stations continues all through the Octave of Easter.

A hint at the thought: “Let not him who has “put his hand to the plough” forsake his work, but rather attend to that which he sows than look back to that which he has left behind.” – St. Leo the Great

Fascinating discussion on the relics of St Paul. Doesn’t it seem that modern scholars have no trouble accepting the word of the ancients on where someone is buried except for the word of ancient Christians? I don’t ever recall reading, for instance, “legend has it that King David is buried in King David’s tomb in Jerusalem” or “legend has it that the Roman centurion (Name) is buried where the inscription in the catacombs says he is buried.” Yet we hear over and over “the supposed relics of Sts Peter and Paul are under the altars of their basilicas in Rome.”

St. Paul Outside the Walls! What a gorgeous basilica. I’ve been there twice. The first time was before they unearthed the bones underneath the main altar. The second was after they had the tomb exposed (behind glass)…so neat!
