What is your good news?

Do you have some good news for all of us?

Something small from me: on a hot, muggy day iced sun tea goes down very well.

Also, Irohamomiji is finally unfurling with some zeal.

Try some of your own sun tea with what the Mystic Monks of Wyoming will send you.

It’s swell!

Three days without a cane or a crutch! This lasted two months this time. Just in the nick of time too, my stomach is wrecked from the NSAIDS.

Hooray! And my birthday was Saturday and I ate cake and felt fine. I put out a piece of cake for the birds but they acted like they were afraid of it. I put out bread crumbs with it and then they figured out it was food and gobbled it up. They hopped around on the patio with frosting on their beaks. Not sweet tooth, sweet beak.

I finally got my computer back from getting de-wormed after it got so full of malware and viruses that I could no longer use it. This also means I can finally register for classes.

  8. Paulo says:

About a year ago, my wife’s uncle Jean Paul, who’s a Marist brother, sent me a small cross, which I have been wearing around the neck since. Last week, as I was doing some chores around the house, I noticed that the chain had broken up, and the little cross was gone. Since I had been out and about as well, I simply gave it for definitely lost. I did say a simple prayer hoping to finding it, and then moved on. Now, my neighbour was having her house’s roof replaced, and there was quite a bit of debris accumulated between our houses, so a couple of days after the cross went missing, I decided to broom some of the rubble out of the way in order to keep the passage to my backyard clear. Lo and behold, I found the cross, under the debris! My wife and I dubbed that day last week “the day I found Jesus”. Really, in all seriousness, I am glad I recovered the cross that “mon oncle Jean Paul” sent me, a simple but powerful symbol of our faith.

Drove 200 miles round trip yesterday to attend the Tridentine Latin Mass and to assist the choir. It was totally worth the time and the trip.

  11. I got a few people to join the 54-day Rosary novena (started on Father’s Day) for priests and bishops. Would like to get more….

I am nearly finished with Edward Leen’s “Why the Cross?” It’s excellent. Also, in the mail last week I received the two volume, “Commentary on the Nicomachean Ethics”, by Aquinas, translated by C.I. Litzinger. I read part of this work as a junior in college, and now, 29 years later, am enjoying going through it once again. Talk about water under the bridge!

Just got back from evening mass and a great confession. Priest followed the formula, gave decent advice, was succinct and out I came- voila!

  20. Lily says:

We just got an amazing new priest as associate pastor at my NO parish. He knows the TLM and would like to offer us more [much-needed] confession times. I spent quite a while talking to him today… and then he gave me a blessing in Latin. My day was made. :-)

My good friend Cathy married her long time boyfriend, also my good friend, Joe, on Saturday. The love between them, for their family and friends, and for Our Lord was so deep and overflowing. I’m still weeping with happiness! They finally did it! They’re going to Rome for their honeymoon to pray at Blessed JPII’s tomb. Not only that, but Aristotle (the first chant teacher I had who actually taught me something) was supposed to have married his Joy on Saturday too. Praise God for loving Catholic marriages!

My latest furniture delivery was not left in the driveway, unlike the last two.

    @GirlCanChant,

I know what you mean. I have not passed out from a blood donation, but I have had a day or so of virtual downtime afterward.

The husband of a friend of mine has to carry a card with him issued the blood bank in the metropolis where he lives, so the police will not mistake him for a junkie, due to needle tracks on his arm. His blood donations are now most conveniently expressed in gallons. A plaque in his honor is on the wall at the blood center.

  26. Today is the second anniversary of the day I married my beautiful wife!

    tradcatholicmom,
Congratulations. Being owned by a Siamese cat is . . . an experience. You may be maddened and confused, but you will never be bored (and you will always be loved!)
I bred and showed Blue Points for 15 years B.C. (Before Children). Now I’m into dogs, but I still have a little Lilac female who rules the roost with a paw of iron.
Good news . . . I got my very own Liber Usualis at a fire sale price, from a mail order used book store that didn’t know what it had. It turned out to be full of handwritten annotations and cards from ordinations in the 1950s. Nine priests, all from O.L. of the Fields Seminary in Ohio (Glenmary). Three are deceased, two have left the priesthood, they’re all on my prayer list.

  28. Paulo says:

When the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup, I reported with sadness on the shameful riots that took place in downtown Vancouver. It is opportune to follow up with good news: (1) many citizens voluntarily met the following morning to help clean up the mess; (2) other brave citizens placed themselves in harms way during the incident to defend other people’s property; (3) many rioters, thanks to the images that were posted on various social networking sites, have been successfully identified. Some were obviously just caught in the mob mentality of the moment, and have apologized publicly; others will be brought to court.

  31. Lucia Maria says:

My son was being harassed by another boy at school. Just little things like being knocked when he walked by, being kicked under the table, having his stuff taken, but just constant. To the point where last week on Friday my son was so agitated and oppressed by it all he told me he might want to home-school again. That evening our family prayed the Rosary together and afterwards it was if a cloud of darkness was lifted off him and he was back to normal. We’ve prayed the Rosary as a family every night since (we’ve had trouble in the past finding the time), and then on Sunday I finally got myself organised and asked one of the priests after Mass to bless some Miraculous Medals I had bought a year or so ago. On Monday, my son went to school wearing the medal under his uniform, and went I picked him up afterwards, he said the boy who would normally harass him stayed away from him completely. Same thing today (it’s Tuesday here in NZ), and he also said that he seems to want to harass him, but can’t get near him. Honestly, it’s a miracle!

My wife and I are fortunate to be in Rome with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for the Pallium Pilgrimage: wonderful to meet so many people, bishops, priests, nuns, lay, from across the archdiocese. And, Deo volente, we’ll see His Holiness tomorrow.

  34. Ygnacia says:

The Vienna western mass has been cancelled!! The RC archdiocese of Vienna has reportedly withdrawn its support for it.

The group that usually has the whole jamboree organised, has decided to turn to the Old Catholic church for a celebrant for the western ‘mess’…….

    Very good news indeed!!

  39. wanda says:

Yes it is, Patti Day. I was thinking the same thing. It really gives a lift to see and hear about the blessings of others.

  40. benedetta says:

Agree with Patti Day and wanda, great to see good news. For us we have tiger lilies blooming in abundance though I do not know the exact type of this flower.

Although June is coming to a close I did see somewhere that June was National Iced Tea month. But you could certainly toast with your sun tea wherever you enjoy it in the world today.

  41. irishgirl says:

The last couple of weeks were insane for me. First of all, my water was turned off at home (couldn’t pay the bill). Had to go to social services (hated that-felt like cattle), and I ended up in a homeless shelter for women and children. Nice place, though. But the day I went to the shelter was the same day that Michael Voris was going to speak at a dinner I had a ticket for-the shelter had a curfew of 9:00 pm, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to stay for his talk!
Now the ‘good news’: I was able to snatch a few minutes to talk with Michael before the dinner! I complimented him on his defense of the Catholic Faith, and he gave me-no cost-a DVD and a book on ‘How Catholics Got The Bible’. It was from his publishing company! Then, before I left him, I gave him a hug and a kiss on his cheek! What a nice guy he is!
I’m also back at my house (as of last week)-I got another check from my IRA, my water’s back on, I have my laptop computer back (two days before it was due to be ‘trashed’ by the repair shop), and I’m going to a convent of traditional Sisters this Saturday for their ceremonies of Clothing and Profession! WooHoo!

Still basking in the beautiful Solemn High Mass offered by our wonderful FSSP pastor and the Corpus Christi procession which followed. We had to take a roundabout way to avoid the traffic backup associated with the Gay Pride Parade going on at the same time–guess all of us TLM people are counter-cultural revolutionaries!! Also heard a wonderful priest is retiring to my neighborhood. Shhh…he has been known to say a very beautiful TLM!

  43. wanda says:

Irishgirl, You are amazing. I’m happy to hear that your situation has improved. My goodness, it makes my little issues seem like nothing. Your joy in the Lord is so evident. May that joy continue to be your strength, your hope and peace. Blessings!

  46. AvantiBev says:

Unless you have been involved in dog rescue and adoption, you may not see this as a blessing but my good news is that my little dachshund, Nikki Sue, who was rescued from a puppy mill situation by the wonderful folks at Dakota Dachshund rescue and whom I call my “velcro dog” is – after one whole year – beginning to open up and play with other dogs. She is still hesitant to leave my side for long but last night she played and ran with the other dogs at our nearby, new city dog park until she stopped, got that look in her eye that says “Where’s my mom?” and ran back to me. Three minutes of play tops before she once again adhered to my ankles but baby steps in healing and hope.

  47. Tina in Ashburn says:

Last Friday for the Nativity of St John the Baptist I attended a beautiful chanted Tridentine Mass. A small group of monks recently moved to Charles Town West Virginia, of all places. About an hour’s drive from here, there is now a daily Tridentine Mass!!!

The priest is a former Anglican with a deep devotion to Our Lady of Walsingham.

I didn’t know anything about these guys, and happened to get an invitation from an acquaintance for this Mass, honoring the priest’s 20 years of ordination, the 11th year of this Order [Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem], and St John’s Nativity.

The Mass was simply chanted in that ethereally still and peaceful manner that only monks can achieve. The incense and vestments both were heavy and beautiful. Tall candlesticks. Lovely altar cloths. The reverence at this Mass was so deep there in the Sanctuary that I felt odd being there – as if I shouldn’t be watching or present. Afterwards there was a gregarious reception, giving everyone a chance to meet the monks and the other attendees. I found new friends and known ones from other parishes. A very happy evening!!

The Canons have a Facebook page if you are so inclined to look them up and ‘like’ them.

  48. Tina,

I understand the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem were founded by Cardinal Burke when he was Bishop of La Crosse (WI), followed him to St. Louis, and have now moved to Charles Town at the invitation of Bishop Bransfield. So you sound very fortunate, even if their daily TLM is an hour away.

  49. irishgirl says:

wanda-thanks! At least, for the time being, things are all right with me.
Thank God I’m not in that shelter! As I said, the people who ran it were nice, they do a good work in helping women and children in need. But I sure saw a different side of life than what I’ve been used to!
Hopefully, circumstances will start to look ‘up’ for me. Again, thanks for your concern!

  52. John Murray says:

Bought a house in a new city in a new part of the country. Two neighborhoods over is a parish with a Latin Mass. Looking good!

Also my daughters and wife returned from a retreat with the Passionist Nuns of Whitesville, KY–it sounded great.

  53. Charivari Rob says:

Good news? How ’bout this –

In a city and world where we have people like the ones responsible for this: “Police say boy, 4, was victim of gang-related shooting” (yes, 4-year-old shot in the back on a playground)…

…we also have people like this: “Kai Leigh and her mom: ‘Pray for that little boy’”

    “…
Tonya looked at the 11-year-old girl sitting across from her in a wheelchair. Kai Leigh Harriott’s luminous, knowing eyes locked on to her mother’s face.

“Neither one of us spoke a word,” Tonya David said when contacted last night. “I looked at Kai Leigh and she looked at me. Then the both of us just went into prayer.”

Sadly, it’s a ritual this mother and daughter have found themselves doing far too many times since a bullet shattered Kai Leigh’s spine eight years ago on another summer’s night much like last night.

“We prayed for that little boy,” Tonya said, “and, yes, we prayed for whoever shot him. …

Kai Leigh Harriott was all of 3 when she was paralyzed by Anthony Warren, who fired off several bullets meant to convey his drunken rage at a girlfriend. Kai Leigh had been sitting out on a third-floor porch in the company of her grandmother.

By the age of 5, Kai Leigh would capture the world’s imagination when her radiant smile lit up a courtroom and she graced Anthony Warren with three simple words: “I forgive you.”
