Pray for Bishops!

The US Bishops are going to need steel… spines in the upcoming battle for religious liberty.

Bishops, however, remain human beings, sinners, susceptible to many negative pressures.

And do not forget that the Enemy of the Soul hates bishops with the relentless focus cunning of an angelic being.

Pray for our bishops, especially for your local bishop.

There is an online initiative to promote prayer for bishops which you might refer to: Rosary For The Bishop.

You should pray for your bishops every single day.  I also recommend offering your penances for your bishop.

Tomorrow, for example, is a Friday. We are to do penance on Fridays.  Make a plan to offer some penance for your bishop.

    Bishop Sample of Milwaukee has published a letter to be read at all parishes on Sunday. The article in on Caritas in Veritate. I like to pray for a specific bishop and he is my pick today.

    Father Z, this is going to sound like a joke, but I’m not kidding.
    How does a layperson (or anybody) keep track of everyone and everything that needs prayer? Do people keep a little list? This suggestion for prayer for Bishops reminds me of this problem.
    Many times, I feel discouraged about prayer, because I realize I can’t possibly pray for everyone directly, or I’ve forgotten someone, or some other issue. I even at times feel anxious when I am trying to be in prayer, because I feel that sense of anxiety, not to forget someone or something. That certainly can’t be right, anxiety has no place in prayer.
    Suggestion? Thank you so much.

    Actually, Kathleen10, if you read the book “The Help”, or saw the movie, you’d have seen someone do exactly that–write down everyone who asked her to pray for them. Because of this, she had the reputation of being a very efficacious prayer warrior. What I do when I’m asked to pray, or I’ve encountered a situation or person who needs prayer, is pray immediately a quick religious ejaculation. Then later, when I am praying my evening prayers, I pray generally for all those who had asked me to pray. And don’t worry about it, assign your guardian angel to pray for all that you intended to pray for.

  6. Faith says:

    The Guardian Angel Prayer for Friends
    Guardian Angel,
    watch over those whose names you can read in my heart.
    Guard over them with every care
    and make their way easy and their labours fruitful.
    Dry their tears if they weep;
    sanctify their joys;
    raise their courage if they weaken;
    restore their hope if they lose heart,
    their health if they be ill,
    truth if they err,
    repentance if they fail.

    I know this isn’t typically done, but please let me thank the people who respond to my question about prayer. Thank you! Beautiful prayer and suggestion. Thank you all.

    This is neat. I signed up for Bishops Zubik, Sample, Chaput, and my missouri Bishops

    I’m on the border of two dioceses. Praying for both bishops, and the one for my hometown. I also shared it to the Facebook page of my hometown parish.

    We must also pray fervently for our priests! On this page about halfway down is a terrific little prayer book called “Chalice of Strength: Prayers for Priests.” It’s only $1 and a great resource of prayers for those who bring us Christ in the sacraments.

  12. Bea says:

    Is it all right to pray for our bishop’s conversion,
    and if that doesn’t work: that he gets a transfer?
    I’m sure he’d love to go back to his hometown of Chicago, anyway.
    I’ve been praying for a while. Nothing happens.
    He’s been blocking our requests for the TLM EF
    Many broken hearts in our diocese.
