   We used to see many red-polls in Missouri at this time of year. They are so cute. And the last time I saw a sun dog was also in Missouri, winter of 2009-2010-the dual ones. Mentioned below in Shakespeare. The parhelion was seen before the Battle of Mortimer’s Cross – a victory for the White Rose. I have never seen the complete arch or the three, only the two. If you ever see the arch, think on this reference Great photos.

   It may be you mistake the lone Common Redpoll, for the less common Lone Redpoll. Heh.

   What a sweet and tiny little bird! It looks like one of our Chickadees in Connecticut, but with a red hairdo. It always amazes me how a little animal like that can survive outside in the raging winter, when a human being can’t.
   Also love the sun dog. I often see two but they don’t look as colorful as the picture you’ve got.
   What a beautiful world we have.

   I’ve been noticing more sundogs and moondogs over the past couple of years. It must be … GLOBAL WARMING!! Or … CHEMTRAILS!! (Sadly, I know I could post that at certain locations and be taken completely seriously.)

   I drive west in the early evening after work, and if it’s a cold day I almost always see the sundogs – and often the arcs around them. I’ve never seen the complete circle meet above the sun, but the arcs have come pretty close.
   This is a fairly common phenomenon here. Lots of moisture in the air, and if we get a cold snap the ice crystals form quickly. Traditionally it means snow here, but we haven’t seen much of that yet!
