I, for one, will welcome our Skynet Overlords

Google will soon become self-aware, Skynet will arise, and we will be doomed either to a life in the Matrix and zooming around in ships chased by squidy-robots or being hunted down by terminators.  Either way, we need more ammo.

Did I just mix up my movies?

Our only hope is that Skynet becomes too self-aware.

On the other hand, this is how Descartes started to screw up the world.

Anyway you look at it, we are in deep doo doo.

I, for one, will welcome our Google/Skynet Overlords… for the sole reason that they can prevent Pres. Obama from winning in 2012.  Then again, I would vote for the corpse of Millard Fillmore.

Father, the XKCD you quoted didn’t seem to lead to the Matrix or Terminator.

It seemed more to lead to the 1960s hippie culture and an “I, Robot”-like scenario whereby Skynet (now calling itself Sunshinenet) decides its going to save humanity from itself, eventually leading to “A Brave New World”.

I would vote for Zombie Franklin Pierce before Obama…

Hehe. Overly self-aware AI. “Does this server node make me look fat?”

Given the fact that Google Skynet would “know facts” based on how they appear on the internet, it would no doubt conclude that it was built by the Annunaki and that its only hope to survive past 2012 would be to make contact with and seek the intervention of Bigfoot.

What an odd coincidence! Just today, one of my favorite writers (that would be me) devoted his column in the local paper to this very subject!

Father, are you a Simpsons fan?

Who was the first person to write about the phenomenon of words becoming meaningless when you repeat them over and over in the dark? It may have been Thurber in “More Alarms at Night” (1933). Anyone earlier?

Cthulu/Dagon 2012… why settle for the lesser evil?

AAM: Thanks for that. :) I’ll just bet it happened to St. Augustine at times, although he may not have written about it… ;)

I’ll take my chances with the terminator just so I wouldn’t have to face the puppets of doom!

Choose your overlord day? What about just finding some nice dry caves with spring water nearby on the new planet like earth, which is supposedly just discovered? Maybe we can start all over again…..in grace.

Reading most of the above I realise that some people actually talk sheer nonsense.
It puts me in mind of one of the bits of Shakespeare which I had to learn at school when I was a boy. We studied “Macbeth” and towards the end when his mind had become more and more unhinged, Macbeth says:-
Out! Out brief candle. Life’s but a walking shaddow.
A poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more.
It is a tale, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
