My brother was at a business meeting with Frank Shorter some years ago. They broke for lunch, and afterwards there were questions about what each had to eat, etc. When FS was asked, he said that he had run 10 miles. How did know it was 10 miles? “I run for an hour–it’s 10 miles.”

I am beginning to think you are following the olympics. ¡Gasp!

Glad that handball has finally reached the knockout stages. 6 teams in a group make for rather uninteresting games. Too many possibilities, so a loss doesn’t really matter.

  5. Northern Ox says:

Thank you for this — the Montenegro women’s come-from-behind win over France yesterday was truly epic.

Might I suggest a look at water polo as well?

  6. Massachusetts Catholic says:

Handball? You mean there is an Olympic sport other than beach volleyball?

  7. Jim in VT says:

As an American I find it puzzling that handball never caught on here. It is just the type of fast-paced, high-scoring and physical game that Americans usually enjoy.

I am still despondent over Matt Emmons inability to close the deal in men’s 50m 3 position smallbore rifle. He is an excellent shooter, doing very well in past World Cup and Olympic 50m prone rifle competitions, but he has some kind of hoodoo in 3-pos rifle. In 2004, he cross shot a target in the final and ended up finishing 10th out of 10 after having been in the lead. In Beijing, he had the lead going into the 10th shot of the final… he shot a 4.4 when his rifle discharged as he was settling into his rest. Knocked him from gold to 4th place… which is amazing in itself that he only fell to 4th place. And in London, he fired a 7.6 on his 10th target in the finals, dropping him from a lock on the silver to the bronze. But then again, Emmons said he was ecstatic for the 3-pos medal. Be thankful for what you have, I guess, especially coming back from a diagnosis of thyroid cancer in 2010.

I totally love handball since I watched it on Xfinity.com

I wish the US had a team in there. I actually love watching this sport more than basketball. Watching the Croatian women battling Spain was something else yesterday. The acrobatic maneuvers, diving throws into the net made it so exciting.

    What a great sport.
