All Night Vigil at the Church of the Holy Innocents starting with Mass (TLM) at 6 PM followed by Stations, Exposition, Vespers & Compline, the Fifteen Mysteries of the Rosary, the six approved Litanies, periods of silent Adoration, Little Office of the BVM, a convivial coffee break, Procession of the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction concluding with First Saturday Low Mass at 5 AM. All in the heart of midtown Manhattan.
Sometimes I want to move just so I can be near to a church like Holy Innocents in midtown Manhattan. *sigh*
acardnal: Be aware that at Holy Innocents in Manhattan LAY PEOPLE got the Extraordinary Form started – with the priest’s permission and cooperation, of course.
LAY PEOPLE organize the celebrants. They pay them. They got the vestments. They supplied the nice vessels. They put together the choir. They pay the choir. They print the worship aids. They organize the rehearsals. They schedule the servers. They set up and provide for the coffee and doughnuts “convivium” after Mass in the hall. They clean up. They open up and they lock up. They help with the decorations of the church for all the feasts. They even give support to the Ordinary Form Masses on special occasions.
They do it all, from soup to nuts.
They.
Do.
Everything.
If you want what they have, then make it happen.
I did forget, and couldn’t figure out why Father was wearing white vestments at this morning’s Mass!
The story of the EF community in New York City is almost as exciting as the Aubrey/Maturin novels, and almost as long. The Holy Innocents Chapter intersects with
a) Its conducive architecture
b) The fact that before SP, it was used for the EF a couple of times in conjunction with conferences and special events.
c) A guy named Mark, who wouldn’t quit.
d) The promulgation of SP.
e) The fact that we are an old city, with a long history of Catholicism.
f) We are a large city, and had a large pool of traditionally-minded (often young, younger, youngish) priests from which to draw.
acardnal, I was the harpie who started the SSPX Mission Chapel in NYC. I attend HI, these days, but if you want some pointers about how to get what we have, you can email me personally.
Thanks NoraLee9. We have a Latin Mass Society of which I am a member here in my diocese of Madison. It started with Bp. Morlino’s arrival, I think. I wasn’t here then. We have a TLM/EF Mass every Sunday at a diocesan parish. There is maybe two or three other parishes in the diocese that celebrate the EF . Hopefully, things will continue to progress to the point where we have a parish dedicated to and staffed by an order/institute of TLM priests e.g. FSSP, ICKSP. I think it is a matter of time to grow the community’s size. [Then pray for a local priest to get involved rather than bring in specialists. If you want this to happen, rely on grace and elbow grease. Get on your knees and pray. Fast. Work.]
Prayed a rosary for all bloggers here that posted prayer requests on another thread. (The Prayer Request thread, that I couldn’t find right now)
