   I’ve been looking for a new series to start reading. Would you recommend the Jack Reacher series, Fr.Z?

   I wonder if you are reading the entire “Jack Reacher” series as you have read all of the “Aubrey/Maturin” series of O’Brian books? Happy trails.

   Jack Reacher and Lucas Davenport(from Your home town, Father) are two of the best fictional characters in print. Good Reading, Father…

   Agree re: Lucas Davenport as well.

   I think the wobble in the earth’s axis must be more wobbly . . . three days in a row a major agreement!

   Jack Reacher (and Lee Child) is great if you don;t mind a bit of bloody mayhem here and there. I don’t. Just finished Bad Luck and Trouble.

   Love the way Lee Child goes off on a fascinating tangent about something like what a bullet is doing at so many thousandths of a second along its way… weird little mathematical or trivial tangents that heighten the suspense of the story… superb writer, and Reacher is a great character, sometimes not so much because of what he says but what he doesn’t say. “Reacher said nothing.” ….. Love the Reacher novels and pretty sure I’ve read all of them.

   Heaven help us but Tom Cruise is going to play Jack Reacher in a film adaptation of “One Shot”! [Perhaps the worst casting choice EH-VUR.] The book is not the best of the Reacher series and Cruise is the worst possible physical type to cast as Reacher; neither was he the Von Stauffenberg type but I thought “Valkyrie” was a good effort.

    If you like Lee Child, then try Robert Crais. I just finished his latest book, Taken and it was great!

    Apocalypse! Four days in a row with major, major agreements with another sentiment on this blog.

    Cruise seems like too much of a wimp to play Jack Reacher.

    But I guess it wouldn’t be the first time a film strayed extremely far away from the book source.

    This discussion reminds me of “The Sum of All Fears”. It wasn’t the best of Tom Clancy’s books to begin with (excluding those with big ghost-writer input), but the description of the movie alone made me swear never, ever to watch it…. surely another candidate for top 10 worst movie adaptations ever.

    I thought Jacobi did great. A pity they skipped some books in the TV-series.
