Quislings for Obama

Phil Lawler at CWN picked this up:

On the web site of Catholics for Obama [Quislings for Obama] right above the story blasting critics of the Plan B contraceptive—you’ll find a photo of Cardinal Timothy Dolan, roaring with laughter, with a smiling President Obama beside him, at the Al Smith dinner. (You won’t see Mitt Romney; he’s cropped out of the photo.)

Gee, that wasn’t predictable!

  1. Southern Catholic says:

Wow, the Catholic Democratic voters guide is really sad and it twists the words of the Bishops to support their positions. The worse problem I have about all this is that I see a lot of the youth, in the youth ministry I volunteer at, follow this logic on a lot of issues. ” ‘Beware of false prophets who come to you disguised as sheep but underneath are ravenous wolves.” MT 7:15

  2. wmeyer says:

Interestingly, the site is not responding this morning, at least not after 30+ seconds. It’s possible someone has launched a denial of service attack.

  3. acardnal says:

I was able to reach the site.

  4. anna 6 says:

As Romney said in his speech regarding media bias, the headlines would read:

“Obama Embraced by Catholics. Romney Dines with Rich People.”

So apparently, “Catholics for Obama” are both literally and figuratively, a joke.

  5. majuscule says:

Picky of me, but it’s been a few years since they updated their copyright notice at the bottom of the webpage.

Also near the bottom is a nifty quote from Kardinal Kennedy. (For some reason I can’t copy-paste or I would.)

There is only one just penalty for treachery and treason.

There is only one just penalty for treachery and treason.

First it must be identified as treachery or treason. No one in Washington has the courage to make such a finding. Too many living in glass houses, I guess.

  8. wanda says:

Gee, who would have seen this great photo op coming? See? The catholics love Obama? They’re whoopin’ it up.

  9. coeyannie says:

Dolan should have uninvited Obama. Either that or stayed home himself. He has no business yuking it up with the most pro-abortion president in the history of this land. What kind of a Catholic leader is that anyway. I have lost any respect I had for him.

  10. And thus, those crazed concerns from those that voiced dissent to the inviting of Obama to the dinner are justified. I knew there was a reason I’m not on the Cardinal Dolan fan group.

  11. Magash says:

I know its sounds all very well to sit back and second guess Cardinal Dolan, but the fact is that to dis-invite (or not invite) Obama would have been a bridge burning act of political war. Especially if the invitation for Romney had stood.
Now many here might feel that the time has come for that kind of action. If you feel that way, great. Just be sure you’re ready for what could follow. Now it might be that if Obama wins that Catholics will face this anyway.
For starters expect the IRS to pull the Diocese of New York’s tax free status. If you’re okay with that, great. But if you’re a member of a New York parish be ready to cough up the difference in donations to allow the diocese not to have to close parishes due to the smaller income. If you’re not a member be ready to do it anyway.
Next expect the Cardinal to have to deal with priest problems as lefty priest disassociate themselves form the diocese. Great again you might say, except if there are enough of them who leave how will he keep the parishes open?
Next count on the media to pound the Church even more than normal. They won’t stick to facts, they’ll dredge up every semi-fact and outright lie they can come up with.
Then there will be the string of lawsuits that will accuse the diocese of using individual liberal Obama voters contributions to the Church for political purposes in violation of the law. It won’t matter that there all without merit, the diocese will have to defend against them anyway.
As I see we may see this anyway if Obama wins and the administration wins the HHS mandate or even loses. I don’t expect a second Obama presidency to follow the law or constitution any more than they have so far. If he wins I expect the administration will do everything it can to hold up the lawsuit until Obama can appoint another supreme court justice or two. Or too lick his wounds at a loss until he can appoint another supreme court justice or two.
Also remember if things get bad enough in New York, between the local government and the diocese or the federal government and the diocese expect Rome to take an interest. Even if they believe the Cardinal is morally right they might move him and put in a more , ah, diplomatic archbishop just to prevent hardship on the part of the members of the diocese.
Unless we’re ready to trigger the next step of persecution today it might be better to be circumspect a little while longer.

  12. Norah says:

    Well said Megash.

  13. Singing Mum says:

I dunno, Megash. In the list of what might follow an enormous provocation like being disinvited to a high-profile charity dinner, you forgot to include this possibility:
The administration puts a mandate on contraceptive coverage in its health care law, thereby denying Catholic employers religious freedom and ensuring more lives lost to early abortions.

    Oh, wait…

Obama slaps us all in the face, including our bishops, and its somehow prudent or circumspect to hope for a reconciliation and invite him to a charity ball so he can tell jokes and pose for pictures with one of our cardinals? I’m not a big critic of Cardinal Dolan, but I can’t see Obama’s attendance at that dinner as something good, or even workable. What’s the good fruit that comes from it?
