I’m hoping we know the results soon after the polls close, because that will mean a Romney landslide. However if the current polls are correct then it will be close so we may be up all night nail-biting or even worse, waiting for days for recounts, etc. That is the outcome I worry about, as there is more chance for mischief (remember the machinations in Chicago in 1960).

Looks delicious. Your pictures are making me long for another trip across the pond. It has been way too long. As far as the smilie is concerned, I hope you have a good and joyful day.

I’m with Jon Patrick in thinking it might be such a squeaker that there will be days of recounts, etc.

And the machinations in CHI were not the most recent of dirty tricks . . .

No, there were the busloads of Somalis in Ohio being “assisted” by the Dems in their voting.

Our parish had a “patriotic rosary” last night. It was wonderful. Very uplifting.

  5. Jim of Bowie says:

Not to worry. Romney 295+ EVs.

Jim, I pray you are correct, but the polls are no help — you can find any answer you want.

Really? Hmmm…where did you hear that (I am always so out of the political loop). I don’t doubt that there are many Somalis in Ohio – Columbus has the highest population of Somalis in the U. S. and I am sure that at least some of them are naturalized citizens, eligible to vote, but if foreign nationals can be “registered” to vote, doesn’t this show the overall problem with voter registration activities in general? No birth certificates need be presented nor proof of citizenship. Heck, there were campus canvassers trying to get people to register by simply signing them up. I usually have to show two forms if identification, such as passports, drivers license, etc., to get a job which even touches State or Federal monies. Should not voting registration be at least as restrictive?

Voting today (soon in fact). Praying.

  9. A remarkable likeness!

Out of silly curiosity, who is this “Giuliani 1912”?

  10. Pedantic Classicist says:

Aw, Some Guy, you ruined my “Rudy-in-a-time-machine-throwing-a-wrench-into-the-already-crowded-1912-race (take THAT , Wilson!)” bit! [wow, that’s a lot of hyphens] Well, you snooze, you lose (right, Rudy??), I guess.

It IS bizarre to have Giuliani and 1912 on that cup, though. Reminds me of my friend the classicist-turned-comic-book-writer who wrote “Tales from the Bully Pulpit,” an incredibly zany tale with Teddy Roosevelt (speaking of 1912!) time-traveling using H.G. Wells’ time machine. Something tells me that Rudy wouldn’t be quite as dashing a figure though…

Anyways, I don’t mean to sound cynical, but I will just enjoy a brief respite from the presidential race media-wise, at least for 6 months or so. Then it will be time for Decision 2016! Can’t wait!

I beg to differ, but Decision 2016 has already begun.

    Just ask Chris Christe.

I am more than willing to attribute ulterior, careerist motives to politicians, but I think Christie has simply been trying to get adequate help for the citizens of his state. NJ was devastated by the storm.

He also strikes me as someone who knows well that short, fat guys stand little chance of being elected President. And he, like Colin Powell, well understands that his popularity would sag the minute he declared as a Presidential candidate.
