    Is that actually a full sized cup of coffee…in an actual mug…on a plane?! I’ve never seen that before whenever I’ve flown anywhere! It’s always been some small paper cup partially filled!

  2. NBW says:

    Have a safe flight home, Father. Enjoy the coffee, even though it’s not Mystic Monk coffee.

  3. mike cliffson says:

    Come to that, whither and whence floweth the Potomac?

    I hate hyms at mass, but, as a hym, I ‘m quite fond of
    Who is She that stands triumphant
    Rock in strength upon the Rock,
    Like some city crown’d with turrets
    Braving storm and earthquake shock ?
    Who is she her arms extending ;
    Blessing thus a world restored ;
    All the anthems of creation
    Lifting to creation’s Lord ?
    Hers the Kingdom, hers the Sceptre !
    Fall ye nations at her feet !
    Hers that Truth whose fruit is freedom ;
    Light her yoke ; her burden sweet.

    As the moon its splendour borrows
    From a sun unseen all night
    So from Christ, the Sun of Justice,
    Draws His Church her vestal light.
    Touch’d by His her hands have healing,
    Bread of Life, absolving Key :—
    Christ Incarnate is her Bridegroom ;
    The Spirit hers ; His Temple she
    Hers the Kingdom, hers the Sceptre !
    Fall ye nations at her feet !
    Hers that Truth whose fruit is freedom ;
    Light her yoke ; her burden sweet !

    Empires rise and sink like billows ;
    Vanish and are seen no more ;
    Glorious as the star of morning
    She o’erlooks their wild uproar……./….

    Apparently, Youngsters, ie, people now reaching 50! Have never sung it !
    Add faith of our fathers, and take Jerusalem from new full brethren under our Lady of walsingham’s pretection, and you can keep the rest.
    Even so, We could do with the Tiber being sung to as an earthly counterpart to the river flowing from the temple in Jerusalem giving life all the to the dead sea, ‘cept for the banks…

    Whither floweth the Tiber, then….?

    Prayers for your safe – long and winding – trip back home.

  5. Charles E Flynn says:

    In the photo, it appears that the mug is not circular in cross section at the bottom. Who makes this mug?

  6. tzard says:

    Interesting choice of music, Father. =)

  7. I’m reading the same book right now!

  8. acardnal says:

    I am just so happy that that book you are reading is still in print! Thank you TAN Books.

  9. APX says:

    @Acardnal
    If you’re looking for good old Catholic books out of print, try archive.org. There’s tonnes of good books on there for free.

  10. Dr. Edward Peters says:

    TRFITT. Good book, eh.

  11. Glen M says:

    Fr Z, this can’t be the first time you’ve read this book, can it?

    [Of course not.]

  12. wmeyer says:

    acardnal: I had to go check TAN books, because Amazon seems not to know it’s in print. One copy there is being offered for just under $5,000! (Brand new, mint condition, multiple copies available.) Glad we all do some research before purchase! ;)

    I am due to re-read it. Then to follow up, I will read again the books by Msgr. Wrenn on the Catechism.

  13. thefeds says:

    Interesting music on the iPod, Fr. Z. Are you considering goose for the holiday coming up next week?

  14. acardnal says:

    APX, thanks for that link. I will check it out. One book I am interested in reading and which is out of print is The Decomposition of Catholicism, by Louis Bouyer. If anyone knows how I can obtain a reasonably priced copy, please advise. Thanks. (The cheapest one on Amazon is $120)

  15. kallman says:

    that is a standard issue coffee cup on Delta (at least in business it is).

  16. kallman says:

    PS that book is on back order at TAN and their shipping conditions for outside the US make it impossible to get unless you can arrange a USD bank transfer to them. Maybe that’s why the price on Amazon is so high

  17. OrthodoxChick says:

    acardnal,

    If your local library belongs to the “WorldCat” interlibrary loan program, you can borrow it for free. Don’t know what part of the country you live in (if you are in the U.S. to begin with), but if you happen to live near me here in New England, of course, we have it available in libraries here. It can be borrowed from the libraries of PC (Providence College), Holy Cross, UCONN, Brown, Smith, and, College of Our Lady of the Elms.

    Here’s a link to Worldcat. If it doesn’t work, let me know and I’ll try another for you.
