High-living, big-spending, bloated, decadent, parasitical, wastrel monarchy v. Citizen-executive of a republic of limited government

Mark Steyn made an interesting point in his recent piece HERE:

[Pres. Obama] and his family are about to jet off on their Christmas vacation to watch America slide off the fiscal cliff from the luxury beach resort of Kailua. The cost to taxpayers of flying one man, his wife, two daughters, and a dog to Hawaii is estimated at $3,639,622. For purposes of comparison, the total bill for flying the entire royal family (Queen, princes, dukes, the works) around the world for a year is £4.7 million — or about enough for two Obama vacations.

According to the USAF, in 2010 Air Force One cost American taxpayers $181,757 per flight hour. According to the Royal Canadian Air Force, in 2011 the CC-150 Polaris military transport that flew William and Kate from Vancouver to Los Angeles cost Her Majesty’s Canadian subjects $15,505 per hour — or about 8/100ths of the cost.

Have I mentioned lately that spectacularly pro-abortion Pres. Obama is attacking our religious freedom?

In contrast, the best president who was a member of that political party said “No President who performs his duties faithfully and conscientiously can have any leisure.”

  2. Therese says:

My heart sinks at the thought. But he won’t be on the continent at Christmas, and that’s okay by me.

I can’t make my true feelings known here, without being banned for life. All I can say is that, at this point, it truly is all in God’s hands. I can rest at ease knowing that I did NOT vote for his continued presence in the White House, and I hope and pray we have the chance to vote for real change soon!

We hear a lot about the ‘fiscal cliff’ we’re facing at the end of this year, and there’s a lot
of kabuki theatre happening in DC over it right now. Does Dear Leader fret over our
impending fiscal meltdown? Well, rather than stay in DC (or at least Camp David) to work
on a solution, he’s taking off for three weeks in Hawaii, not to return until January 2nd,
    after the fiscal deadline.

As for the Queen (God bless her!), few realize that over two hundred years ago George III, in
a fiscal jam, ceded control of the revenues from the Crown Estates (his own property) to
Parliament in perpetuity. In exchange, he agreed to accept funds voted him by Parliament–
the Civil List. At the time, that might have been a good deal for the monarch, but that was over
200 years ago. Parliament still takes all the revenues from the Crown Estate ( now about 240
million pounds/year in profits), and in return grants the monarch an annual sum to cover
expenses (around 8 million pounds/year, an amount that hasn’t been adjusted in over a decade).
From that sum, the Queen is expected to pay her considerable expenses as head of state.

If Her Majesty lived like the Obamas, she could take two trips to Hawaii like theirs, but she’d
be stony broke the rest of the year.

How much would it cost to keep him there? Perhaps the Federal Reserve can print out more funny money?

  6. Supertradmum says:

Obvious that the Messiah wannabee would be a monarch wannabee. To me it is actually embarrassing the type of lifestyle this family lives at our expenses. He and wife remind me of the huge difference between the nouveau riche and the real nobility, which has noblesse oblige inculcated in their families. Not so O’s. I would say, what my Grandma use to say, but I would be accused of racism, so I won’t say this. No. Virtual thinking…..”You can make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear….”

  7. Supertradmum says:

oops sorry, am very tired and stupid “You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”, but what I wrote is much funnier….goodnight, America.

  8. jflare says:

Uh, not trying to be contrary here, but this doesn’t sound entirely accurate. When the President flies anywhere on Air Force One, he typically will have some of his staff, Secret Service, and a few military personnel aboard too. These “extra” people would be along to provide policy advice, security, or military readiness, as needed.
    Right?

Mark Steyn is the greatest commentator on western civilization in the world. If such a thing as education exists in the future, his writings will be used as a textbook on the decline and fall of our way of life. After America is sobering reading and should be read by any sentiant adult in the western world.

Also, jflare, the scale of Obama’s waste is actually much worse. When he moves around, the number of security and staffing personnel/vehicles/etc is staggeringly high. All them things dont fit in a 747 (and many of them are in place before the 747 arrives). If the man went about in a golden carriage driven by unicorns it would still not be as expensive as his current mode of transport. In prosperous times a presidency as wasteful and expensive as Obamas is vulgar, in times such as ours it is obscene.
