LENTCAzT 17 Friday 2nd Week of Lent – Benedict XVI on kénosis, self-emptying

Yesterday was pretty hard on us.  But let us not forget that Holy Church is not about the former Pope.  For Benedict himself, everything has been, always, about Christ.  Lent helps us remember that.

Today is Friday of the 2nd Week of Lent.

We hear about the Station, the Collects, and then have part something from a General Audience of Benedict XVI in 2009 in which he talks about Christ’s self-emptying, not clinging to glory.

From Benedict’s sermon:

How marvelous and, at the same time, surprising this mystery is! We can never sufficiently meditate on this reality. In spite of being God, Jesus does not want to make his divine prerogative an exclusive possession; he does not want to use his being as God, his glorious dignity and his power, as an instrument of triumph and a sign of remoteness from us. On the contrary, “he empties himself,” taking on the wretched and weak human condition.

    Dear Fr. Z.,

Thank you, again, for the splendid LENTCAzT, which I find an admirable aid to Lenten contemplation.

Like you, Fr, I have also marked the progress of Lent with Posts of the Lenten Stations on my Blog, “Zephyrinus”.

Let us continue to Pray for our beloved Pope Emeritus and the forthcoming Conclave’s arduous duty to elect a new Pope.

    in Domino

    Zephyrinus

He’s right. We can never sufficiently meditate on this mystery/reality.

First-time listener here. Father Z, you have a magnificent speaking voice.
