My children are safely ensconced in their excellent Summer School run by the St Catherine’s Trust with the support of the Latin Mass Society here in the UK. I hope Father Z doesn’t mind me advertising this, he knows our Chaplain Fr Andrew Southwell, so I’m quite sure it’s ok! There is also a Latin Course that is run at the same time by Fr John Hunwicke of the UK Anglican Ordinariate. All in all a great week and I am so grateful this opportunity exists for my children! Our baby was baptized recently, and our priest surprised me by using the Old Rite (in English). I had never experienced it before, and it was fascinating! It was a very special experience for all involved. My dad was excited because he hadn’t seen a baptism like that since he was a boy. Father also enlisted our 4-year-old son to be his “altar boy” during the baptism. I was so proud to see how well he took to his surprise role, and he’s looking forward to becoming a real altar boy when he’s old enough (as long as everyone understands that his ultimate career goal is to be a road worker). Couldn’t have asked for a happier day.
My sister will be attending Immaculata Classical Academy here in Louisville in the fall, Deo gratias! It was all a swift and sudden change…but a great one. I’m actually a bit jealous! immaculataclassicalacademy.com
I finished my Eagle project. I have a Scoutmaster conference tomorrow evening!
I served Low Mass last week for the first time (I served three or four days I think). It was so wonderful!
I also spent some good time with Dad on the range. He recently purchased a Bersa Thunder .380, a copy of the Walther PPK. It handles nicely; I just have to be extra-sure that my hand doesn’t get caught by the action…also, at one point is this handled in the liturgy, and by which minister not already holding a liturgical Beretta? ;)
Our Jesuit EF priest celebrated his 85th birthday this past weekend. We are blessed to have him, to my knowledge there is not another priest in the diocese who can celebrate the EF.
The sweltering heat and humidity of last week has subsided. Thanks be to God!

Congratulations to all, especially you, Mamajen. My good news also concerns a baby. 11 months ago, I was asked to pray for a young wife who longed for a baby. After two years of disappointment, she was in despair that she and her husband would ever be blessed. I immediately petitioned Our Lady and regularly lit candles for their intentions. The much longed-for little one was born yesterday!! She’s a little treasure. This couple is protestant, but I told them I would be asking Our Lady for help. They are most grateful. [Many thanks also to St. Gerard from whom I asked prayers for her healthy pregnancy and safe delivery].
My lovely wife convertex almost 16 years ago. She was baptized as an adult,so there was no need for confession to make her first communion that day.
Last week our priest at our new parish came to have dinner and bless our home. My wife also made her first confession that day. Deo Gratias!

My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary on Sunday, my pregnancy is going well at 22 weeks, we just moved into a house, and my husband has a phone interview for a new job! We entrusted our unstable job/housing situation to St. Joseph and St. Jude, and though there’s plenty of uncertainty left, God’s mercy is so clear in how far we’ve come in just two weeks.
A successful confession on Saturday, followed by vigil Mass, with an excellent and orthodox homily by a young Dominican Priest. The Order of Preachers well lived up to its name.
Just 10 days ago, two new priests were ordained for our diocese (Hallam, England), one of them a former work colleague of mine, as it happens. It’s over four years since a new priest was ordained for our diocese! According to my research, we’ve had only nine new priests in the 21st century, including these new ones, so we have been very short of priestly vocations. We’re due a new bishop some time soon – let’s hope he’ll inspire a few more vocations.
I have been invited to visit a religious community!
Our middle son Ryan and his wife Alicia announced they are expecting their first child February 27th. This will be our ninth grandchild; prayers for a safe delivery and healthy baby.
Our first grandchild was born on July 2nd! He was baptized on Sunday, July 21st. Thanks be to God!
After a scary third trimester, my husband and I welcomed our tenth child a few weeks ago. He is small, but healthy, and the rest of the children are over the moon. Now, please God, the priest will return my phone calls so we can get the little man baptized!

I am very happy to report that, as of today, BOTH of my sons are………EMPLOYED!!
This is a big day for me. Despite this horrible economy, somehow, as a single mom under the poverty line in the Appalachian foothills, I have managed to stay off of any kind of welfare, food stamps, etc, and today, both my sons have jobs. They are 16 and 20 years old.
Thank you, Father, for being there for us when we needed a helping hand. I am in tears of joy today.
My cousin just celebrated her 50th year Jubilee as a Holy Cross Sister and the Mass at which she gave the homily was not as bad as I expected. [Fr. Z would have enjoyed the swipe my cuz took in her homily at those who would persecute the LCWR.] The average age of the sisters was about 65 but it was nice to see the dozen or so young women from Bangladesh, Peru, Honduras, Philippines who are presently in the novitiate and their care for the elderly American sisters. The offertory dance was interesting and the bishop and 5 priests didn’t have to work too hard at Communion time as the sisters used the Holy Purell and then busied themselves proving anything men can do we can do better.
Seriously, I do LOVE my cousin and admire her commitment in this uncommitted, no-deposit-no-return society. And she had arranged for a lovely 3 day family reunion at which 4 generations of our family gathered from 83 year old to 4 month old. The fun we had seeing those whom we have not seen in 20 years and sharing stories of our now departed grandparents and parents were the real blessings!
Another bit of good news is that behind the busy, noisy airplane hangar of a “renovated” church of Loretto on St. Mary’s South Bend campus, I found a quiet, tiny chapel called The Chapel of the Little House of Loretto” with beautiful statue and murals UNRENOVATED thank God.
