Redefining ‘pedophilia’ as a ‘sexual orientation’

I have written more than once that a goal of homosexualists includes the elimination of the age of consent.  Goals like this are attained through creeping incrementalism.

I just read this, from the University of Southern California:

Pedophilia Now Classified As A Sexual Orientation

People can classify themselves as heterosexual, homosexual, asexual, metrosexual. There are endless sexual orientations under the sun, and now, pedophilia can be added to the list.
In the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V), the American Psychological Association (APA) drew a very distinct line between pedophilia and pedophilic disorder. Pedophilia refers to a sexual orientation or profession of sexual preference devoid of consummation, whereas pedophilic disorder is defined as a compulsion and is used in reference to individuals who act on their sexuality.  [First step, change the language, change definitions.]

APA’s decision has given rise to numerous pedophilia-advocacy groups, the chief of them being B4U-ACT, a non-profit grassroots organization based in Maryland. Created in 2003 primarily as a means for “minor-attracted persons” to be open about their sexual preferences in a supportive atmosphere, B4U-ACT is now widening the scope of their organization.

According to spokesperson and registered sex offender Paul Christiano, the pedophilia-advocacy group is “working towards de-stigmatizing the mental health community.” Christiano explained that negative societal attitudes towards minor-attracted persons “trickle down to policy-making and the mental health community.”

Your comment, “First step, change the language, change definitions” is so true, Father. My wife went to nursing school in the mid to late 60’s, she says that back then homo sexuality was classified as a sociopathic disorder. So, at some point, they changed the language and definitions regarding this topic and look what we have today….

  2. Angie Mcs says:

This is worse than dreadful, Father. It is putting the stamp of approval on destroying children’s lives. No matter what the law might say, children intrinsically know that the actions of pedophiles are wrong and scary. They also tend to blame themselves, keep it secret and thereby find themselves
alone in the world, cut off from everyone they can turn to for help and comfort. These feelings stay with you all your life. No law will change that.

And what will happen to psychologists? Will they be trained to try to convince their patients that beingbthe victim of a sick older person is a good thing? No, there will be no place an to turn to.

And what will be next? A rapist wants to have sex. Why shouldnt he be allowed to satisfy his sexual orientation? ( Pardon me for the use of he or she pronouns. I know men are victims too). This law allowing homosexuals to marry has become a Pandoras Box of evils. I can see victims and their families taking matters into their own hands and punishing the perpetrator, thereby commiting a mortal sin themselves. It will be chaos and evil running amok.

Pardon the typos- I inadvertently hit the post button. This entire issue upsets me greatly. I find myself writing without composing my thoughts. My apologies for the rants.

  4. APX says:

Exactly what do they mean by “devoid of consummation”? How are they defining “consummation”? And what about those who only watch child pornography?

  5. StJude says:

My goodness! The slippery slope to hell continues on pace.

Change the language is right. Abortion.. became ‘choice’… became ‘womens rights’… now its just arguing over who pays to murder the child.

  6. Cantor says:

I recall only one transgression for which Jesus advocated capital punishment, found in both Matthew 18 and Luke 17. Cited here is the Matthew version:

“Whoever causes one of these little ones* who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

USC and APA do not trump JC.

  7. The Masked Chicken says:

Seriously, what right does psychology have to be called a science? It has become a de facto morality guide to many people who want to rationalize a guilty conscience. Tell me one thing we understand better about the human psyche, today, than we did 150 years ago, before the advent of psychology (neuroscience doesn’t count, as that is a subcategory of physiology).

Yet, society has decided to entrust the lives of many people to suspect science, because, someone has to take the responsibility, so why not put it on something dressed up as a medical discipline that, actually, have very poor philosophical underpinning and very little good science.

Unbelievable! Just unbelievable. Will this be the straw that breaks the camel’s back? I don’t think Our Lady will be able to hold back her Son’s arm much longer.

  9. yatzer says:

Well, someone who is a “scientist” is obviously an expert (insert smirk here) and we all know that a designated expert knows everything.

  10. Sonshine135 says:

Every time I hear about this, I think about Genesis Ch. 19. It started with homosexuality, and it will not end until it includes pedophilia, incest, and bestiality. Our country falls further and further into the acts of Sodom. An oft trumpeted question of these lobbies is, “Why does it matter to you who a person has sex with?” This is why folks! This is why! People are not getting treatment. Attraction to people of the same sex is being used and abused to make people think they are bi-sexual or homosexual. Now, the slope has become all too slippery. It is very sad. Souls are falling to hell like snowflakes in a snowstorm.

  11. One is led to wonder whether some of those who “suffer from being psychologists” do not merit having their own category in the DSM.

And yatzer the glossary entry for “expert” (alt. sp. ex-spurt), includes the usage “a has-been drip.”

You will find the answer to your question in Fr. Chad Ripperger’s book, Introduction to the Science of Mental Health. It is not a pretty picture.

  13. KingofCharity says:

It’s happening. Just as Humane Vitaea’s predictions about the devastating ramifications of the pill all came true, so too, will the Church’s prediction about re-defining traditional marriage. CNN just ran a front page story about the mainstreaming of polyamorous relationships. The link is here:
    http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/26/living/relationships-polyamory/index.html?iref=allsearch

Civil rights and marriage equality have never been their goal. How can it be?
The goal has always been to eradicate societal taboos and traditional sexual norms and to free people from cultural, societal, political, and religious “sexual repression.” The liberal, secular humanist world, under the guidance of diabolical institutions and Luciferian machinations, has always had an agenda to push the de-mystification of sexuality and the de-regulation any and all sexual norms; ultimately dismantling and annihilating all sexual “taboos.” So called “gay rights” is and always has been about uninhibited sexual promiscuity, unadulterated erotic liberation, and constructing a sexual conscience free from any and all “guilt.” In their goal, there will no longer exist sexual “deviations” and “perversions” in society. All sexual expressions are valid and mankind’s erotic desires, impulses, and fantasies need to be freely expressed without any judgment or condemnation. They want mainstream societal acceptance of all human sexuality. Since they are often atheistic materialists and humanists, they believe that human sexuality is “all natural.” Nature is always good in their mind. Since masturbation, homosexuality, pedophilia, pornography, voyeurism, polyamorous love, etc. are all ubiquitous and occur in the “natural world,” then they must be a normal part of the material world and the homosapien animal.
This is why we need Divine Revelation and Reason to tell us what is right, good, truthful, and beautiful. We need a “Catholic understanding of science, reason, revelation, and faith” in order to maintain our sanity.

Does this mean that the legal system will be overturning unjust judgments, judgments which punished the Catholic hierarchy for not preventing non-criminal, diverse behavior?

  17. Unwilling says:

Of course, it is not the study of psychology that is a problem — Cardinal Mercier and Bishop Sheen were both advanced students of that science. The problem is simply error, apparently willful. As other comments imply, the CCC makes a similar distinction (characteristic temptations versus objectively disordered actions) regarding same-sex attraction. We must accept distinctions for understanding that are valid and true, even if we must then be vigilant not to be swept along into conclusions about practice that are impudent or false.

  18. Unwilling says:

I’ll just leave that impudent/imprudent typo stand.

  19. The Astronomer says:

My late friend the Rev. Dr. Malachi Martin referred to society’s eventual embrace of this madness as the “approaching scream of the Ancient Beast.”

The Ancient Beast seeks his final showdown with the ‘Woman Clothed with the Sun’ and these are his willing servants. Church Militant, grab your rosaries, arm yourself with the sacraments and prepare to do spiritual battle on behalf of Our Queen and Her Son!!!

  20. Marion Ancilla Mariae says:

Martial Artist wrote, “One is led to wonder whether some of those who ‘suffer from being psychologists’ do not merit having their own category in the DSM.”

    Well said.

Traditionally, if one had a mental health issue, one sought the counsel and support of one’s family and friends. The next resource for help was the clergy, members of which were, for thousands of years, primary providers of mental-health services for ordinary people. Then following the so-called Enlightenment, and the secularization which followed (i.e., the forcible prying apart of religion from the rest of life), it became necessary to introduce to the popular mind separate professions dealing with the human psyche in a completely secular, non-religious way – psychology, psychiatry, psychotherapy.

The trouble with these professions is that, having cut themselves loose from the moorings of traditional religion and philosophy, they have also cut themselves off from any reliable method of ordering themselves toward fundamental morality, decency, and common sense: values which abide eternally in Judaeo-Christian religions, and values which modern psychology has all too frequently disdained.

Those among these professionals who have, in their work, turned their backs on traditional religious values (and the preponderance have) are now far, far out at sea, without a compass, without a sextant, without charts. All these they have long ago thrown overboard. They are lost, so lost they don’t even have a clue how lost they are.

Why then, are we surprised when they call evil good, and good evil? How are they to know otherwise?

  21. Unwilling says:

Marion, it is not the being a psychologist or being in healthcare or being the President that is the problem. Being a specialist or having a narrow or wide, traditional or emerging role is not the problem. The problem is identified by the other part of what you say — being cut loose from “fundamental morality, decency, and common sense: values.” This way of looking at it maps onto the sinner/sin distinction. The Astronomer calls for the right kind of armaments.

  22. KingofCharity says:

The problem is that satan and his legion of diabolical forces are the princes of this world, and they have a firm grasp over the “wisdom of men;” we are immersed in a universe of physical evil. All created matter is good, but fallen. Science is good, but can be misguided, misused, or abused. Empirical evidence is good, but can be skewed, misinterpreted, or ignored. Reason and human sense are good, but can be deceived, misled, or tainted. Weather is good, but can become chaotic or violent. Sex is good, but can become instinctual, deviant, and perverted. Psychology and the study of the human brain is good, but can be distorted and manipulated by moral and political agendas. The cosmic, spiritual and temporal War is everywhere. As Catholics alive in the Holy Spirit, we can see it. It’s all around us and we must see it in order to fight it. We as Catholics must never forget that we are soldiers immersed in the spiritual warfare between Heaven and Hell– Original Justice and Original Sin. Saintly glorification/sanctification and concupiscence. Order and disorder. Providence and chaos. Beauty and the grotesque. Omnipotence and free will. As Catholics, we must never forget that Christ came to declare war on the devil and his works of moral AND physical evil. The universe is fallen and in the midst of war. Christ came to make “all things new,” and create a “new heaven and new earth,” since this world and everything in it is “passing away.” The devil and pagan man try hard to convince us of the “permanence” of creation, but science/cosmology/astrophysics AND Revelation/Tradition clearly tell us that it is all “passing away.” Man and all cosmic matter will be sanctified and lifted up in Christ. Christ came to glorify the human soul but also nature and created matter itself. In the new, heavenly Jerusalem, man and nature will no longer live in animosity; rather, they will be adopted children of God who live in harmony with His creation. The human heart will no longer be in conflict with the disorder and chaos of the fallen world of Satan. The fallen world/nature and mankind’s contentious battle with it (cancer, hurricanes, tornados, disease, famine, meteors, earthquakes, etc.) are, in a way, a sacramental reflection of the spiritual war between Heaven and Hell, the angels and demons. Yet, we know the victor.

We must armor ourselves in the Sacraments and Scripture and cling to Jesus. We must immerse ourselves in the Eucharist, the risen, glorified King who restores creation back to Original Justice and vanquishes Original Sin and its effects. The Eucharist, Divine God Flesh is our remedy to the impermanence that surrounds us, the antidote to decay, rot, and death. We must fight demons with fervent prayer, holy water, relics, sacramentals, novenas, and all the power of the saints and angels.
Pray that our reason is always grounded in Divine Revelation and that our faith is always tempered by reason, neutral science, and objective inquiry. If not, the Prince of this Earth, the Angel of Light, the Father of Lies will lead us astray.

A commenter on the article cited by Fr Z makes reference to a group called IPCE- there is no explanation of what the letters stand for, even on their website. Have a look at:
http://www.ipce.info/ This is really scary. They are organised and have a plan.
Please don’t knock the important work of authentic psychologists. Yes, it is vital to remain grounded in the moral truth to carry out this job, but along with authentic psychiatry, these areas remain vital in the face of so much mental disorder and illness. Yes, confession and spiritual direction are so important, but the priest is not a doctor, an important distinction made by Fr Gabriele Amorth in his book on exorcism. Sometimes a doctor ( who can specialise in psychiatry) or psychologist is needed,

So we’re bigots for saying that homosexuality is a “disordered desire” that one should not act on, because acting on it is a “sin,” and the DSM V is the summit of professionalism for saying that pedophilia is “an orientation” that one should not act on because acting on it is a “disorder”?

    ??? WHA ???

  25. The Masked Chicken says:

“Yes, it is vital to remain grounded in the moral truth to carry out this job, but along with authentic psychiatry, these areas remain vital in the face of so much mental disorder and illness.”

The problem is that psychiatry really isn’t much of a science, so it does not deserve as much respect as it gets. As someone on the forefront of the development of modern theory (at least as regards humor), I know how research is done. In reality, studies have shown that in at least some cases, people do as well if they are seen by a non-psychology professor who is told to do what comes naturally. As for the major mental illnesses, in reality, we don’t have much of a clue about what causes them. We have some trial-and-error drugs that seem to provide relief, but we really don’t understand why. Psychiatry is government sanctioned counseling, but counseling is only as good as the wisdom of the counselor. Psychiatrists do not, suddenly, gain wisdom when they get their M. D.

I’m kind of amazed by the source. I went to USC and the Annenberg school of Communication/Journalism is the most far-left organization at USC, and possibly at any university in the country. This is the school that gave Katie Couric an award for her embarrassing sham interviews with Palin and Biden in 2008. Neon Tommy is a student-run blog or newzine they put out. Maybe the dam is starting to break, or the younger generation is starting to doubt their professors’ biases? Ah, or maybe it’s just a fluke.

  28. IPCE stands for International Pedophile and Child Emancipation. What lengths people go to justify a guilty conscience… This is sick.
