I started (formally) teaching religion at home to my 5-year-old kindergartner this week. Our parish doesn’t begin religious instruction until 1st grade, but I wanted to get him started earlier. Not only does he love it, he is really learning and remembering what we cover. I was nervous about it, and took a long time to hunt down a curriculum that I thought would work, but it’s going very well so far!

  4. eiggam says:

I participated in a job fair and have an interview next week.

  5. mpsguard says:

I received word today that I’ve been granted Italian citizenship jure sanguinis (by descent). It is a very happy day for me. I’ve got to figure out what Diocese my Comune of San Ceprano belongs to.

    Deo Gratias

  6. Venerator Sti Lot says:

News, well, … how about, went through the day enjoying the thought that it might still be St. Lot today in the Roman Martyrology, but not knowing where to look it up?

  7. Del says:

40 Days For Life is underway. This is the largest vigil ever (each year, it gets bigger). We have reports of nearly 150 children saved thus far (that we know of) during this first week — including two or three from our own vigil!

Yesterday, I prayed with a woman who drove from more than an hour away, to experience her first time at our vigil. The night before, I prayed with a couple from my home parish — also first-timers to our vigil.

There is a vigil near you. You will be surprised and uplifted, just by showing up to join us. Bring your rosary and one of your favorite prayer books. You might just save a life!

Find a vigil near you! We’re all over the world….

God is answering some urgent prayers.

  12. Nan says:

My mom, who had a stroke 2 years ago, may be able to transition to assisted living, albeit enhanced assisted living. She’ll be thrilled if it’s possible as she never wanted to go to a nursing home but that was the only reasonable place for her at the time. While she has begun to move on the left, she wasn’t learning enough to continue pt for more than a few months but is more mobile and can now sit forward so it’s easier to put her sweaters on and opened an envelope for the first time. She reports it was very difficult but she was able to do it.

  13. Tim Ferguson says:

I am scheduled to formally declare my candidacy for Holy Orders for the Diocese of Marquette two weeks from today (on October 24), in the presence of H.E. Archbishop Alexander Sample.

Rejoicing in ArchBishop Cordileone SF recent move on his seminary.

  15. Lori Pieper says:

Finally, 5 days after a terrible server crash, I have all of my websites back up and running! No harm done to my files. If anyone wants to know why I didn’t publish the rest of my posts on St. Francis and the Sultan – well, there you are! I’ll try to get busy on them again when I get caught up.

  16. RidersOnTheStorm says:

Pope Francis will consecrate the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Sunday.

At the request of the Holy Father, the original statue of Our Lady of Fatima is being brought to Rome tomorrow evening. Prayers and all-night vigil , then consecration on Sunday with rosary and Holy Mass at St. Peter’s.

Say the rosary on Sunday form wherever you are.

  17. Nan says:

I went to Mass and thought I hit the jackpot; my pastor, three bishops, two of my favorite priests and my favorite deacon were there. The occasion? The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has a new auxiliary bishop elect, Bp. Andrew Cozzens, a professor from St. Paul Seminary. Abp. also asked us to pray for vocations.

Please pray for our new bishop.

  18. I don’t know if this is good news of bad news.. but a few days ago I wrote a blog which contained the info you wrote about Pope Francis and Medjugorje and two days ago I was looking at my stats and saw a visitor from ‘Vatican City’ checking it out. It was via a direct link, meaning that the blog was read by a link sent via email or typed in manually. I thought it was pretty cool, so for the rest of the day I carried my cell phone just in case our Holy Father wanted to give me a ring. =D No phone call. Guess I was lucky.. my spanish & italian are terrible.

  19. trad catholic mom says:

My opthomologist says I do not have a retinal detachment or tear. This was a concern over the last week.

  20. Nan says:

@Tim Ferguson, congratulations! What wonderful news! I’ll pray for you through the intercession of Marquette’s finest; Venerable Frederic Baraga, first Bishop of Marquette. I’ve been to the Cathedral in which he was ordained, St. Nicholas in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

  23. Suburbanbanshee says:

My grandma who had the aneurysm is now out of rehab at the nursing home, and back at her real home. She is walking and doing pretty well. So thanks for your prayers, everybody!

  24. Rose in NE says:

My husband and I are going to Rome next week with a group of fellow pilgrims from our parish. On the 18th we’ll commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter by attending a Solemn Mass at the FSSP parish in Rome. It will be celebrated by the Superior General, the Very Rev. Fr. Berg, FSSP.

Also, some prayers for our pastor who will be leading this pilgrimage would be appreciated. He is recovering from a broken foot, so this probably won’t be an easy trip for him.

  25. Joseph-Mary says:

Our 40 DAYS FOR LIFE campaign is going well with much more church involvement. Deo Gratias!

  26. Peggy R says:

P.S. Car is working again, made it to confession. Relief! Peace!

Got the kiddies out to Grant’s Farm on this lovely day. Too tired to jump the barricades to US Grant’s house, however.

  27. av8er says:

My oldest is 12 today. She is such a great kid. So are my other two knuckleheads. My wife a I are truly blessed to have these gifts.

  28. Kathleen10 says:

Special congratulations to Tim Ferguson! How excellent that is. The world needs you.
I’m also so happy for everyone’s good news! I thank Jesus after reading every one.
My good news is a new position I just accepted yesterday. It is a rough commute, an hour plus each way down the I-95 corridor (congested!) but I am grateful. Also scared to death. I am hopeful this is my “last” position anywhere. Getting too old for all the changes.
Also, my much loved sister is beginning to heal from her recent colostomy and setback. Thank you Jesus, Blessed Mother, St. Peregrine, and all the saints.

  29. Palladio says:

Grateful for prayers from readers here. Again, no malignancy in my wife. God granted us both equanimity in a terrible crisis. We can look ahead to a beautiful trip to London in the spring.

Norcia is where it is at, Fr. Z. You and everyone–above all, Frs. Benedict and Cassian and Bro. John–there will be in my prayers. Please pray that I find a life there one day–my ideal–with my family.

  30. Nan says:

@JDBenedictH, I’m told that Bp. C will be at HF advocating for Adoration. Don’t know if at Sun or daily Mass.
