Another tradition of centuries bites the dust!

This is really alarming.  First, the Pope won’t use proper papal garb, then the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate are attacked by the Holy See, then Card. Kasper goes completely to the zoo on Communion for the divorced and remarried.  Now this!

I don’t know how much more of this I can take.

It seems that King’s College is no longer going to have boys in their legendary choir!  This is a huge blow to music.

The situation is explained in this video interview with the chaplain of the choir.

I just wonder, whether the archbishop of Westminster will issue something like Aprilis Stulte ‘Dies II.

  2. Reginald Pole says:

    Aprilis Stulte Dies indeed.

  3. Oh_my_gosh!

Our choir sings the Allegri every Good Friday. Our choir director and I both sing the Soprano I line, and during our last rehearsal we were both having trouble hitting that high C (lots of us getting over colds). I will show her this video…perhaps she and I can each use a balloon.

    :-P

    Aye, but they’re noo Catholic…
Stick to the Oratory, or Westminster.
Helium balloons: a lot of hot air if you ask me!

As long as no one in the chemistry department gets the bright idea that argon can be used to gain access to low notes.

(That can kill you, and no fooling. Do not try it at home or anywhere else. It is far harder than people imagine to flush heavy gases from the lungs.)

  6. frjim4321 says:

    That made my day.

  7. Arele says:

    HAHAHAHA!!!!

    Happy 4/1!

  8. smithUK says:

By way of being a complete killjoy, I strongly urge you to boycott helium balloons: Helium is FAR to precious to be used for such frivolous purposes (eg. helium balloon versus MRI scanner [helium is needed to keep the magnets cool]); cf. http://www.rsc.org/chemistryworld/2013/05/helium-reserve-supply-shortage-price-rise
    Spread the word!

  9. Dcduo says:

The music is really by Anúna by the way. This song is from their CD “Sanctus”. Absolutely brilliant.

  10. mamajen says:

I was expecting to see Rick Astley as soon as I clicked play! Still funny, though.

  11. Mightnotbeachristiantou says:

You had me going there for a minute.

  12. Back pew sitter says:

That’s really very funny – the best April’s Fool of today.

  13. Sigh. Second time today I was completely taken in. I am so gullible.

  14. edm says:

Thank you!! That was really funny!!!

  15. lsclerkin says:

I publicly confess and state here that I am too stoopid to read anything on April 1 ever again.
    I believed you, Father. :)
Not the first time that’s happened today.
    :) :)

  16. anniemw says:

    Now THAT was funny! :-)

  17. PClaver says:

Shouldn’t it be Aprilis Stultorum Dies? (Or is it dies Aprilis stultorum?)

  18. Sonshine135 says:

I heard they were being replaced by a guitar and drum ensemble playing tunes out of the “Spirit and Song vol. 2” music book (calling it a hymnal would be scandalous).

  19. JARay says:

Best laugh I’ve had all day!

  20. Volanges says:

I was watching his lips twitch as he tried so hard not to smile.

  21. pattif says:

I’m ashamed to say I got all the way to the end of the video clip before I thought of looking at the date. It wouldn’t have been nearly so plausible, though, without Father’s intro (that’s my excuse, anyway).

  22. Dr. Edward Peters says:

    Superb.
