My View For Awhile: KC Edition

I am on my way to Kansas City, where everything is up-to-date.

It is ordination season, and the son of a friend, whom I have know since he was about knee high to a boll wevil… just gettin’ into the mood… is to be raised to the dignity of the diaconate by the laying on of the hands of His Excellency Most Reverend Robert Finn, by the grace of God bishop of the place.

No, there will not be a blognic. This is a quick trip and my “free” time, isn’t.

UPDATE:

Second leg.

I was pleased to find a Chick-fil-a (sp?) near my gate. Their plain sandwich is great!

UPDATED:

Having arrived at the house, preprandial libations are for the mixing and shaking together.

I haven’t had this sort of this before. I am somewhat more conservative. But it seems interesting.

Father, I hear that it’s better than a magic lantern show.

    In Christ,

  2. You’ve dashed my hopes! I thought, perhaps, there would be a certain periodical that was hoping to broaden its outreach…

  3. Sonshine135 says:

Safe travels Father Z. You have been quite the globetrotter as of late.

  4. robtbrown says:

Chick-fil-A? How can you eat their hateful sandwiches? (Actually, I had one in Madison.)

Sometime when you’re in KC, you have to visit:

Among other things there is an autograph picture of Josh Gibson and a World Series Trophy. Also saw a Heisman Trophy there.

  5. Elizabeth D says:

I assume that must be the KC seminarian that was just serving Bishop Morlino’s Mass last Sunday, and has been here one or two other times.

  6. acardnal says:

Unfortunately, there is only one Chick-fil-A in Wisconsin at this time and it’s in Racine. When I lived in Virginia I ate at a Chick-fil-A often. I especially enjoy their chicken breakfast biscuit.

In case you are curious about Father Z’s high-quality, high-altitude reading matter:

New: “Non-Negotiable: Essential Principles of a Just Society and Humane Culture”

  8. Maeana says:

I hope you’ll get the chance to visit the Benedictines of Mary while you’re in the area.

  9. Dr. Edward Peters says:

I’ve always liked KC. They gone about as fer as they can go.

  10. Eric says:

    Please be careful Father.

I hear they got some crazy little women there.

[And how is that different from anywhere else?]

  11. Mightnotbeachristiantou says:

It would be nice if we could start a list of First Mass of newly-ordained Priests in the comments.
Since their is an indulgence with them.

  12. Fr_Sotelo says:

Time has flown. I remember, Fr. Z, when that kind dad was on Catholic Online forum and he talked about his kids. Now that little boy is grown up and getting ordained! When your former altar boys are getting ordained, you know you’re not a spring chicken anymore.

    [For sure!]

    acardnal,

I stand corrected. It was while I was traveling, and it was in a shopping center. If I wasn’t Wisconsin, then it was Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, or Nebraska.

As I’ve aged, the labels on my experiences (incl the addresses) have become blurred.

  14. acardnal says:

“As I’ve aged, the labels on my experiences (incl the addresses) have become blurred.”

LOL. I can identify with that statement. I sometimes get lost walking around my house.

  15. Mike says:

On my recent visits to KC, I have attended only the (frequently and reverently offered) Novus Ordo. However, it would seem worth noting that the Traditional Latin Mass — thanks to the good offices of the FSSP and the ICKSP — is offered daily on both sides of the river. Based on what I’ve seen happening elsewhere, a steady increase in vocations is something I would prayerfully and confidently expect to ensue.

A Pater, Ave, and Gloria ascend on behalf of your young friend and the people he will serve.

Oops…lol….should have read the comments first.
    Hey Robtbrown, Chick-fil-A, hateful? Whaat?

  19. robtbrown says:

    Kathleen10,

I was a joke. From the great Glenn McCoy

Should be: It was a joke

Making fun of liberals is great fun, especially because they take themselves so seriously.

There’s an interesting article over at NLM today: There but for the Grace of God…
