You know that Google on its main page changes its graphic “doodle” when important days or anniversaries come along, right? When it is “National Vegan Soy Milk Drinker Day”, they honor … you know.
Today, the 70th anniversary of one of the most important days in Western Civilization, D-Day, what do they have?
“But Father! But Father!”, some of you are saying, little frowns sloooowly appearing, “I don’t see any ‘doodle’. Is that a pre-Conciliar thing? We all know you hate Vatican II!”
Nothing. Is. The. Point.
The last time I saw this… I think the only time I say this… was last Memorial Day.
I think that even SkyNet would have changed the doodle today.

I remember on Easter a couple of years back when Google had a doodle for Cesar Chavez day, completely ignoring Easter, or the fact Chavez was a Catholic.
Someone must have shamed the folks at Google (but not very well). There is now a small mention of D-Day with links. Minimal effort, same as with Memorial Day.
Father, the search engine http://www.bing.com has a photo of the memorial “Les Braves” on Normandy Beach. Very nice!
I’m loath to defend Google (I prefer Bing, which has a nice photo of a memorial on one of the beaches today), but the link at the bottom of the page is not a minimal effort. It’s got terrific original documents from the National Archives, photos from the beaches, etc. It’s really quite a well done exhibit.
How about St. Norbert? He gets shafted by D-Day and Google.
It is very important to remember and pray these men and women on this day. But it is even more important, IMHO, to remember them and their sacrifice every time you step in the voting booth. They died (ALL of them, since the Revolution) for your right to go into that booth and choose the course our Nation takes. To ignore that responsibility or make light of it is to do them dishonor. To many people forget that, or take it lightly – and it hasn’t served us well, lately.
Turns out Google did have a doodle for today – it just wasn’t for D-Day.

Come one people. No one died during WWII so that we can vote. Sheesh!
Their motto is “don’t do evil” or something. Which is how we know they’re … Evil. I mean, really? Who else would have a motto like that except egomaniacs who think they get to define the term differently than 90% of society?

I say don’t use google…..plain and simple. Ever since their Olympic doodle, I made the switch to private search engines (duckduckgo, startpage, ixquick). I sometimes fall into the custom of typing google into my browser and my hatred of google was solidified by their recent honoring of high school graduates of 2014. Google honored the successes of the class with a montage video of young students. The video highlighted two young boys going to a high school dance together and taking photos before the dance with other couples of teenagers with parents all happy go lucky standing about…..Yeah, I stick with startpage and the like.
Nothing at Christmas, either, as I recall. But they do have Kwanzaa covered. Google staffers raise some serious questions in my mind regarding brotherhood.
I’ll second Jacob Ryan as far as duckduckgo. I haven’t made the switch just yet but I’ve been looking into duckduckgo. It’s getting great reviews, best as I can tell.

FWIW, today’s Google doodle (to which I must be subjected since my employer uses Google to manage its mail and calendar) seems to be some sort of dog’s breakfast apparently drawn by an 11-year-old, affirming their late pattern of inchoate, anti-cultural randomness.
Google owns YouTube, and one day last year they changed the YouTube logo on their main page into some sort of gay pride doodle. These logo gimmicks have unfortunately turned from something fun into something political.
