New Seminary in France, also for Extraordinary Form!

I am delighted at this news I just received via email:

I thought you might be interested in learning about the new seminary that will be established presently in the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon by Bishop Dominique Rey, entrusted to the Fraternity of St Joseph the Guardian (FSJC). The goal of the seminary is to form priests from North and South America in order to serve as missionaries in Europe.

The seminarians will be taught both forms of the Roman Rite, with a special focus on the traditional liturgy; their formation will also emphasize the defence of human life in all its stages and the promotion of the natural family. The seminary will be located in Bormes-les-Mimosas with a future branch in La Londe-les-Maures. There is more information at the its website.

Sounds like a great place to teach! I think that a friend of mine, with whom I was in seminary, will be teaching there.

“The goal of the seminary is to form priests from North and South America in order to serve as missionaries in Europe.” If I have read this correctly, then it is a bitterly sad and ironic turnabout indeed, for it was the missionaries from Europe who first brought Christianity to what was then the ‘New World’.

  2. Robbie says:

France is also home to a similar seminary that offers both forms of the Mass. It was opened in Lyon by Cardinal Philippe Barbarin in 2010.

    brick by brick.

Agreed Father, we certainly need missionaries in Europe. Mark you, from what Voris says you seem to need them on your side of the pond too!

The idea of both main forms of the Mass being presented is good. No stark choice is involved. I suspect that this is the best way to re-introduce the Catholic Mass of Ages. The emphasis on liturgy, in Continuity, is essential since it was via liturgy that the liberal/Relativists attacked doctrine after Vat II.

And as for Natural Family Planning, that is the answer to one of the current major problem for young (married, I stress), laity. From the available figures NFP is at least as effective as condoms, contraceptives and probably even aborticides – and is fully approve of by the Church.

Wow! The Summorum Pontificum cannot be stopped! May it be integrated into all parishes and be as a leaven to renew Catholic faith and devotion.

I had the same first reaction as Andreas. Especially when I reflect that my current US pastor is Nigerian! We are definitely a global Church.

Sounds like great news. Pray for the Germany, France, & Spain especially embrace their Catholic heritage.
