Is it just me, or has there been an increase in the number of Pontifical Masses in the traditional Roman Rite lately?
I just saw this at NLM:
On the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the promulgation of Summorum Pontificum, His Excellency Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan celebrated a Pontifical Mass at the Throne in Albuquerque, NM. All the best from NLM to Archbishop Sheehan and all those who helped to make this Mass possible.
Also, I heard that in my native place of St. Paul and Minneapolis Most Rev. Drew Cozzens will be present, at least, for a Solemn Mass and then confer the Sacrament of Confirmation. UPDATE: I am told that it will be a Pontifical Mass. Even Better!
Lately, the Extraordinary Ordinary, Most Rev. Robert C. Morlino pontificate at the throne in Madison. He is slated to do so again on 15 August.
It takes some effort to get these Masses together. There are lots of moving parts. People have to give of their time and have some practices. It is good to see that they are becoming more common. This is part of the unstoppable trend.

Fr. Harkins (FSSP) brought up the confirmations taking place in St. Paul during his sermon just last week. Bishop Cozzens will be present to confer the sacrament, but the Mass itself will be celebrated by the Fraternity priests here. Father emphasized how big of a deal this is, and how important it is that as many people as possible turn up for this. I should also mention that this Confirmation and Mass will be taking place at the beautiful Cathedral of St. Paul.
I’m curious as to whether this is the first TLM to be celebrated in the Cathedral since 1970.
In North Wales last Sunday, the Latin Mass Society held its annual pilgrimage to the sacred well of St Winefride in Holywell. This year we also had a Pontifical Mass, at the Faldstool – the Abbot of Belmont, the Rt Rev Paul Stonham OSB was celebrant. It was a truly beautiful Mass attended in good number. Archbishop Alexander Sample, Archbishop of Portland, Oregon, will be administering the Sacrament of Confirmation, followed by a Pontifical Mass at the Faldstool, to parishioners of St. Joan of Arc Parish, the personal parish for the Traditional Latin Mass run by the FSSP in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
This will take place on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at 1:30 pm.
Gah! I am up north on August 15th. Need to check the Pontifical schedule prior to scheduling any more family vacations.
Yes, I too get the impression that something is happening. Bishop Loverde of Arlington, VA will be administering the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Cathedral St. Thomas More in October according to the traditional usage. He has never done this before.
Does anyone know what happened with the Pontifical Mass that was to be celebrated at the Abbaye Sainte-Madeleine du Barroux by Cardinal Ouellet on the Feast of the Sacred Heart? It was advertised earlier in June, but then the date of the feast came and went and I never saw anything further (no photos or video or textual reports of the event) despite various efforts to find updates. I’m curious whether the Mass took place as announced or had to be cancelled for some reason.

Further to this post, I also wish to share with you another piece of good news.
The Sacred Heart Church in Limerick City, Ireland, was previously the church
of a Jesuit community. It seems to me that it had run into a state of
disrepair even while the Jesuits took residence there, but most
unfortunately, the building was left and became derelict and had stood
vacant for 6 years. It was set to be turned into a leisure centre and spa
but was, by God, purchased by the Institute of Christ the King just a couple
of years ago.
The community is now starting to gather with more and more people attending
the Tridentine Mass they offer, this is fantastic, especially given the
reputation of Limerick city.
Just two weeks ago saw the blessing and dedication of a new, reclaimed
marble pulpit during Solemn High Mass, followed by a Solemn Pontifical Mass
last Sunday, celebrated by Cardinal Burke with the blessing of two new
adoring angels on either side of the Altar. This was the first Tridentine
Pontifical Mass celebrated in Sacred Heart Church in over
50 years.
These were very, very well attended. The Church and residence still need
serious work (the residence doesn’t even have heating) but no doubt,
advancing at this rate it will not be long before they will be a thriving
community. They have truly become a glimpse of hope for Ireland.
This week also saw the first Mass and blessings of an ICKSP priest just 5
days ordained. Although I’m not associated with the Institute (though
discerning) I ask you for your prayers for this priest and for all of the
members of the Institute, that they may continue to be so fruitful.

Meanwhile the Basilica Block Party is in full swing to the sounds of all those orthodox Catholic musicians performing under such catchy slogans as, “What a Long, Sacred Trip it’s Been”, “Praise the Loud”, “Celebrating 20 Years of Rock n’ Roll n’ Repentance”, and “His Kingdom Shall Have No End and Neither Shall His Concert.” Sorry, Father, but until this kind of thing is completely banished from our dioceses, I do not think that having a lone pontifical Mass said here and there is any reason to be encouraged. I mean, look what the Anglicans are noting about Cardinal Dolan: http://www.virtueonline.org/conservative-commentator-calls-catholics-cease-supporting-their-church. Bishop Cozzens was advertised as being made a bishop so he could minister to the immigrant community. His wasn’t any kind of traditionalist ordination.

I do read Italian, so I can say that the MiL post actually offers no reliable indication that the Mass took place; it’s a ‘this has been scheduled to take place today’ announcement, not a report on a past event, and (as the post itself notes) the source is not the abbey but rather a blog post by an Italian Benedictine oblate posted several days earlier (Monday, June 23). The abbey website is strangely silent about the event: they announced the Mass on their website a few weeks beforehand, but that announcement is gone and no follow-up has appeared. Given that such events tend to receive a lot of attention on the Internet after the fact, with various photo spreads and so on, the fact that there have not been any in-person reports is very strange, leading me to wonder what (if anything) actually happened.
