Up and away! St. Joseph of Cupertino

I had to smile today at the Collect for the Feast of St. Joseph of Cupertino in the 1962MR.

Fun.

O God, who disposed to draw all things to Your Son, raised up from the earth, graciously bring about that we, having been lifted up above all earthly desires by the merits and example of Your seraph-like Confessor Joseph, may be made worthy to reach all the way to Him.

Someone had a holy sense of humor.

    Blessed feast day!
His feast is not listed in the universal calendar of the Ordinary Form, but since today is a ferial day and he is listed in the Roman Martyrology today, then his memorial can be celebrated using the Common of Pastors. A good day to watch “The Reluctant Saint” as well.

It is indeed a good day to watch “The Reluctant Saint” ! One of my favorite movies and available for download at Amazon. I pray to St Joseph of Cupertino everyday as part of my personal litany of the saints.

Just came from an EF Mass where Father pointed this out!

It’s even funner to us as less than an hour ago our daughters, their cousins, and their friends were stuck up in the air on a church carnival ride for 20 minutes. They laughed when I told them whose feast-day it is.

The Patron Saint of Astronauts!! Cool!!!
    A good link about him

Speaking of astronauts from what I understand, the late Neil Armstrong, apart from his obvious activities, was also a faithful Cathlic who quietly supported and worked in the pro life sphere. How would one commence the cause for him to be raised to the altar? Are there folk already working away for this?

  7. Josemaria says:

    Loads of levitation levity.

  8. Suburbanbanshee says:

Neil Armstrong taught aeronautics for six years at the University of Cincinnati, a Catholic university. But he was not Catholic. He was raised in the Church of Christ, and his only known comments on his adult religion were “Deist” when he signed up for helping a Boy Scout troop, and “No religious preference” on his NASA papers.

He was a decent man, certainly.

  9. Suburbanbanshee says:

Here’s various Wapakoneta, Ohio places connected to Armstrong, including the St. Paul United Church of Christ where he attended church and became an Eagle Scout.

Btw, when Aldrin gave himself the little communion packages on the Moon as a Presbyterian elder, it wasn’t open communion; Aldrin properly for his theology didn’t offer and Armstrong properly for his theology didn’t ask. Amazing how much better people’s church manners used to be.

I’m extra grateful for this post, Fr.!
