A couple years ago I was in NYC and RI on business, so come Sunday I drove up to the FFI monastery. It was a nuisance to find their chapel in the woods, but when I did, what an experience. The monks, bless them, were trying their best to do Gregorian chant (I remember thinking–this must be how polyphony started), and the EF Mass was wonderful.

I was in the neighbourhood once more a year later, but this time, when I got to the big old door (late), I heard the sad sounds of an English language Novus Ordo. Papa Francesco’s intervention had begun. I’m sorry to say I couldn’t go in. Drove up to Providence for the 12 noon EF.

If you see those friars in Rome again, tell them we’re praying for them. I hope you bought them lunch.

Three of my favorites in the Roman cuisine: Coratella, Carbonara, and rabbit. Were you in Testaccio? [Nope. P.za della Quercia.] Thanks for making both my spiritual day, and my gastronomic day!

Got the notice yesterday about the Summorum Pontificum tour in Rome next October, yourself the chaplain, and Mr. Sonnen promised me the details in a few days.

  3. Supertradmum says:

Maltese Carbonara isn’t…miss the bacon I use in America as opposed to lame ham…

  4. Seppe says:

The carbonara looks heavenly!!! Yes, pancetta (or bacon) would have more flavor than ham; some even use sautéed mushrooms… Some espresso and tiramisú would be good too… Grazie, Padre!

  5. juergensen says:

It will be interesting to see if Cardinals Pell and Muller get promoted before the Synod on the Family later this year. [Get promoted?!? One is Prefect of the highest dicastery, the CDF and the other helps control the money!]

  6. juergensen says:

    Father,

I used “promoted” tongue-in-cheek! Oops … perhaps I should have put it in quotes! :)

  7. jameeka says:

Hmm. C day with small c’s = cryptic?

  8. Sid Cundiff in NC says:

[Nope. P.za della Quercia.] Osteria La Quercia? I think that I’ve been there — just up the street from the FSSP church.

  9. Joe in Canada says:

juergensen: did you mean ‘promoted’ like Cardinal Burke got ‘promoted’?
Coratella! I have ever only had anything close to that in a Filipino restaurant in Winnipeg, where they straightforwardly called it “spicy diced lung and others”
