This past Saturday (26 Sept.) a small men’s group I am involved with hosted a men’s night at a local parish. The turnout was greater than expected! We hoped for around 100 men and we had over 150 from all over our diocese.
We started with a adoration and had at least 6 priests hearing confessions (think there may have been more because more priests showed up then had confirmed), a sung divine mercy chaplet, benediction done by our bishop.
Then an outstanding guest speaker shared his thoughts about authentic masculine spirituality and what it means to be a leader, protector and provider as well as to encourage men to get involved in the church and also to support each other in men’s groups.
We then had Mass with our bishop and afterwards pizza, wings and beverages. It was a great time and we hope for great fruits to come from this event and change our diocese. Thanks be to God for such a great turnout and event.

Everything is just about set for the 27th Annual Red Mass of Orange County, to be celebrated this coming Monday October 5, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the Holy Family Cathedral in Orange for the legal community of Orange County, California. We usually get a nice turnout, including our Bishop Kevin Vann and many representatives of the legal profession, including a number of our judges. Everyone is welcome, and there is a nice meal afterwards.

The Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem, a traditional Augustinian community in Charles Town, West Virginia, and a shining light in my native Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, will celebrate the ordination of two of its brothers to the priesthood on Saturday, October 17, by the Right Reverend Athanasius Schneider, auxiliary bishop of Astana, Kazakhstan. Each of the ordinands will celebrate a First Mass at the community Priory on each of the succeeding two days.

Morning Mass with an African priest who seemed able to make the New Mass feel Ancient… and a real sense of the presence of Angels.

  7. Charivari Rob says:

Was able to make/take time off work on Tuesday to attend a senior priest’s funeral in a neighboring city.

The longtime chaplain at my college – he was a product of the city & region, diocesan priest, several parish assignments over the years, fire department chaplain. I loved his homilies in college -he was a great student of the social/historical/physical context of the Gospels, and got great value out of a trip he had taken to the Holy Land some years before I met him.

It was a beautiful funeral Mass in a parish near both our campus and one of the city’s main fire stations (I think he had been in residence there in recent years, or it had been one of his prior assignments). Good music, a congregation that responded in firm voice, the bishop was celebrant, the retired bishop & nearly four dozen priests in attendance, beautiful remembrance and exhortation/guidance in the homily, fire department honor guard in full dress uniform… even the weather cooperated.

My eldest turned 19 last week.
I managed to keep my resolution to avoid news coverage of the Pope’s visit until after he had left.

The Infant Jesus continues to provide for my family.

My first niece was born yesterday! Little S M J (old reputable saints’ names all of them) isn’t going to be baptised however, so prayers for her would be deeply appreciated.

The MSM and the Democrat Party, and their allies that control AmChurch, are roiling over the Pope’s meeting with Kim Davis. Our hopes of a restoration of Truth on these shores in our time may not be in vain.

Monday, the 37th anniversary of Pope John Paul I’s birthday in heaven, we at the Pope John Paul I Association announced the imminent kickoff of our first major fundraising campaign at Indiegogo.com.

This is is a major step forward for a long-time dream of mine and so good news to me. We will be giving copies of the Pope’s works and and works about him and other perks as well to donors, so this could be good news for a lot of people. You can keep up with developments here:

You can also sign our petition to Pope Francis, asking him to promote JPI’s teaching on Mercy during the Year of Mercy.
